Buy local or online? OS question...

There’s a V 2.0 LP available at my local Sam Ash. Their demo model is 2.0 and I was told there’s one in stock which they assume came in at the same time. If I get one online will it have a newer OS? From what I can tell, the new OS upgrade (2.21) only affects the software editor, which I’m not going to use.

Should I get the local one and be confident it’s not “out of date?” I assume the hardware will be current if it’s a “2.x” version – the demo model has USB. Will the outside of the box have any marking to indicate which OS is installed?

Thanks,
Rik

I have a Tribute edition and had Moog update it to accept 2.0+ in addition to CV out, but you merely need to find out if it’s a Stage I or II. Code is upgradable.

As for buying retail or online, Shipping/Tax may be a concern depending on your state.

Note that SamAsh.com will NOT charge you tax, even if there’s a SamAsh retail store next to you. Guitarcenter.com will. In either case, you should lookout for a coupon as they often have specials either due to some holiday, a made up event, or because their competitor has a sale. Get on their website and sign up and you’ll get a coupon within about a week or two.

If I were buying new and wasn’t getting any sort of deal, I’d get one of the Solar w/CVouts. If $$ is an issue, definitely buy this from NovaMusik.com http://www.novamusik.com/search.aspx?type=Model&keyword=5448&mid=34&lbs=30 (for only $1099). I bought my Old School as open box from them. Free shipping and really good group of guys (vs. a corporate giant).

As fyi: 2.21 includes bug fixes and new features as well so you should definitely get your hands on it.

Hope this helps.

just to make it clear for you: if you buy an LP with OS v.2.00 it’s FREE to update to the next or latest version, just download the software from the moog page, follow the instructions included and you’re updated

Thanks for the responses. I’m on Sam Ash’s mailing list and have used their postcards/coupons before, but I haven’t seen a really good discount in a while.

I’d be inclined to pick up the 2.0 and not upgrade until I find some reason to.

I want to use it with my EWI4000s wind controller and I know, at a minimum, I can set it to drone with the keyboard gate CV trick and control the volume with CC#7 from the EWI (breath is the envelope generator of a wind controller, though in this case since the LP doesn’t respond to breath CC#2 I’d use #7). I will then select other CCs to output from the EWI’s pitch, glide and other controls because, from what I can tell, there’s no remapping or rerouting of MIDI input CCs to the LP functions – like making the filter cutoff respond to CC#7 instead of #19. Am I correct that there’s no remapping/modulation matrix type of thing on the LP? It doesn’t look like pot mapping is what I’m after.

Rik

Hi Rik,
you can map any cc to the filter 19cc with a midi mapper but I’ve had a few issues with the event processor plus. Would be good to discuss this more.
cheers
