So how many of you actually gig with your Voyagers? Do they come home smelling all smokey? I wish I had two so I could keep one at home and one in the trunk of the car.
I take mine to shows virtually every week. It really blows peoples minds to see so many knobs and cool lights. I don’t really worry about the smoke too much since its only out an hour at the most for our sets. Really, whats the point of having it if you don’t use it?! The thing is so friggin’ fat through a good PA! The one thing is I’m pretty paranoid about it getting stolen which means you gotta keep tabs on while you’re trying to hang out. Do it! Rock that bitch live!

I gigged with my Voyager, it makes a very good LH bass machine. It has been in smokey bars and doesn’t have the least hint of nicotine smell on it at all.
The only danger for my Voyager is actually me !
We had a gig in 2005 where we were filming a video of the performance. I ordered a special edition Voyager for that event (backlit panel, oak wood, big signature from Bob on the wood above the keys). I even bought a big flightcase from EMC, the german distributor.
Nothing should happen to my beloved friend and no one should come near.
When I took it off the case and lifted it up, I forgot about my buckle belt. Actually the first thing I did to that new machine was to cut a big, long scratch into the wood at the front, underneath the keys.
I still cringe, when I think back. If I had had a gun, I knew what I had done.
The show was lousy and I hate the video.
Courtesy of some friendly polish manufacturers you can´t see much of it anymore.
… and the moral is: Watch yourself and not just the others !!!
Luckily for the Voyagers there are very few bars..clubs etc., around these days that allow smoking ![]()
You must be from NY. There’s been no slow-down of smoking here in TN. Although the non-smoking areas of restaurants are as large and sometimes larger than the smoking sections.
Other states have smoking bans on bars too, not just NY.
Good to know…the V doesn’t take on the smell…mind you…I’m in NC…the birthplace of cigarettes ![]()
Yeah, there’s not going to be ban on smoking in bars anywhere in the South any time soon. That’s tobacco country.
On the other hand you know us Californians, we’re all tofu turkeys and wheatgrass shots. I LOVE not reeking of stale cigarettes after a gig.
Smoking in bars/restaurants has been banned for two years in my country. I remember one gig before that happened when I came home smelling like a chimney and with a layer of ash all over my pedalboard, amp…
Was it a Moog belt buckle? Man, that would be ironic!
I love the smoking ban in NY, it happened shortly after i turned 21 and now when i go to other states it’s always very confusing when you go to tell the person to put out their cigarette and they just give you a very angry glance.
Smoking a joint in a bar on the other hand…that is something i would like to un-ban!
This is a far too flame-able post on my part…please excuse the my blatant opinions…

Voyager live at a smoking bar gig (not a posed shot)

Cool!
MC, do you use bass amps or a PA?
Moog Synamp biamped into Bose 802 and Peavey 2x15. Sort of a miniature PA.
Hi latigid on:
No, it wasn´t a moog buckle belt. That would have killed me !!!
Can you imagine someone trying to run off with your Voyager, I would think they would slow down after the first 100 feet when they realize how damm heavy it is… ![]()
MC,
Be careful with the bass! I’d be worried I’d swing it around and whack the MMV or A6.
Great combination of synths ya got.
Mark
I always took it off when going to LH bass. But we had started the next song before I had a chance to put it down. The singer saw a kodak moment and grabbed his camera.
There’s a Hammond Porta-B under the A6 - barely discernable in that pic unless you spot the Leslie behind me. It doesn’t have the scanner vibrato of a B, but this one is a killer sounding organ.
I wouldn’t even think about gigging without my AE. Voyager.
I play form of “electronic meditation” sound healing utilizing
The Moog, Japanese Shakuhachi Flutes, Harmos Lap steel and several tuned Quartz Crystal Singing Bowls. All running through Ableton Live on a Powerbook G4.
I have developed really beautiful overtone harmonics on the moog that interact well with the pure tones of the crystal bowls. The sound is truly felt and with the right intention can be very affective. Generally we (My partner Ami and I) perform in Yoga or Massage Studios so the environment for the most part is fairly gentle on the instrument.
But we have played many times at large music festivals in the hot summer sun or at trance parties in dusty dry fields. (We play tribal dance trance for these)and yes also smokey clubs.
I love my voyager so much that if it were a woman I’d marry her!!!
It is a true extension of my being. When I’m not with it – I work patches out in my head. I believe that the Moog is happy to be on the road with me and is tolerant of some of the environmental extremes, for it is meant to be played. Plus people love hearing it and other musicians love seeing it. I try to play hand made instruments when ever possible.
I believe that there’s a living energy in these instruments and this energy really can become fluid in front of a live audience.
The moog is interactive with the performer and also the listener.
