Every time I log out of Myspace there is an advertisement from “OpenLabs” makers of the Meko and Neko thingamadoos…
We see these guys at Namm every year, very nice, always polite and seem to love Moog too..
But this ad says " Looking for a box better than Moog. Play on our systems - Open Labs"

First of all their systems are a PC with a built-in Midi controller.. So, um … How does that even compare with Moog products?
Open Labs has yet (to my knowledge) to really create anything. It’s a PC attached to a keyboard, in a very un-gigable package..
Sorry for the rant, I just don’t like people sh*t talking Moog, when they always smile to our face otherwise… Even the guys at DSI have more respect for Moog than that. And they are clearly the closest thing to competition than Moog has.. If you can even call it “competition” ..
Thats like Dell saying they have a leg up on Moog .. ARGGHHHH..

ahhhhh don’t get too steamed about it. i wasn’t even aware of this company or their products until your post. after reviewing the products listed on their website i look at it like this:

this sounds like the usual desperate marketing using a competitor’s name/brand to lessen the perception that you have a less popular product or to align yours as being “player” on their level. best of luck to them. i seriously doubt they are selling too many units.

Sounds to me like Open Labs is using people from YouTube to write ads. “Well, Reason creates those exact same sounds, and costs a lot less.” Look familiar to anyone?
Are you allowed to name another brand in an advert and say that your brand is better than their brand, without giving any reason? Because I don’t see a whole lot of adverts doing this…
All that open labs is trying to do is assosiate their product with Moog. I too like to assosiate myself with moog

I guess it’s a kind of unfair competion, and in my country (Greece) to name an other competitive company in advertising, is prohibited by our laws as it is considered as bad promotion tactic.
It’s funny though that this “better than moog” product running SOFTWARE EMULATIONS of the REAL THING (Minimoog, Moog Modular).
I’d like to havin’ side-by-side a Moog 3C and the “better by moog” product, just to check things out…and to showing who’s the BOSS here
