bass guitars - so lame

just get a rogue. holy shiit!

i mixed this band last night and they had a rogue, and used it solely for bass. bass guitars just cant reproduce that kind of bass. the sustain. that attack. shook the place silly.

the band was called ‘white whale’. (if you want to catch them on tour). i think its some of the guys from getup kids.

yeah…those Get Up Kids like their moogs…
one of my first introductions to these synths along with The Anniversary

Lame?

I play slap-n-pop bass.

Try to cop that style on a keyboard :smiling_imp:

There are aspects of bass that I enjoy, especially those that feature its non-electronic acoustic nature… but increasingly, I find myself using Minimoog for bass. It creates a unique sound and feel when you’re not doing electronic music.

The Seinfeld theme’s slap bass was all synth. I’m not sure if it was sampled or not.

LOL.

I think it might be FM synthesis, like a DX or something similar. Def not sampled.

Why are you guys all ragging on bass guitars? Pop music requires that some sort of bass sound follow the root notes of the chord. Sure you can put bass on a song with a synth (which I do, too), but last time I played my bass I played it a lot differently than I would my synth. Its just a different instrument, they shouldn’t have to compete.

Now, when we get down to it, I wish I could control my voyager with my bass guitar (in a practicle way, pitch-to-CV converters don’t currently cut it). That would be heaven.

Wasn’t that a Clavinet D…? that’s an EP, not a synth or sampler.

No way, watch it again if you haven’t in awhile. Its VERY digital sounding. It was probably recorded around 1989 or 1990, when the show first aired. Sounds like some 80’s Yamaha digital synth. Probably even a preset.

Roland GK pickup? (GK3B + GI20)

I threw cable TV out the windows years ago - so much for watching it.

I used to own a Clav D. That theme has too many nuances of a living breathing Clav with live strings to be digital and I remember a Keyboard mag article back then that said it was a Clav. It’s been years since I heard it though.

It’s very obvious it’s not a Clavinet. It sounds exactly like the DX-7 slap bass preset to me.

Either way, it’s a keyboard.

yeah, i believe the bass guitar is a fine instrument.
i guess this thread is more about me sucking-off the rogue.
i hope you dont mind.

I don’t care if it’s considered the bottom of the synth barrel. I love my Rogue. Though I’d never suck it off :astonished:
