Audio in CP-251 and VX-351

Hi,

can someone please tell me if the CP-251 or VX-351 can handle audio signals for mixing/multing and attenuation? I don’t think it can, just wanted to make sure.

Regards,
Yannis

Yannis -

This question has been asked and answered before in the forum, but yes, the mixer in the CP-251 and the attenuators both the CP-251 and VX-351 can handle audio.

The attenuators in both units are passive devices, so no problem using them to knock down an audio signal (Note: the exception are the attenuators in the VX-352; these are active, not passive.)

The Mixer in the CP-251 has sufficient bandwidth to handle audio tasks (handy!). However, the thing to watch out for here is the Mixer OFFSET knob, which can add up to +/- 5V to the signal. Be sure to zero it out before using the Mixer for audio, and be careful not to knock up against it when using the Mixer - you’ll be fine.

Hi Greg,

thanks for clarifying this. I was quick to post my question, then I saw it answered in other topic. Anyway.

In addition to expanding the Voyager’s sonic vistas, I was thinking of purchasing a Technosaurus modular (a system B) which lacks attenuators and mixing capabilities, so I think maybe adding a couple of CP-251s will give me what I want.

How about the mults? Can they handle audio signals, too?

Thanks again!
Yannis

Yep - the Mults are just four jacks wired together in parallel, so you can use them to fan out audio or CV signals.

Note: Never use a Mult to mix two or more outputs together. This is true for either audio or CV signals. If you need to mix signals together, use the Mixer in the CP-251.
