Are the magnets in my active monitors strong enough to damage my Voyager in any way or am I just being paranoid? Due to space constraints I have my ALP5s butting up against each side of my Voyager. I’m curious to know if this can do any damage or is the magnetic field not strong enough to worry about… I just remember putting a guitar amp too close to a TV once a few years back and seeing the funhouse mirror effect and swirls of color on the screen. ![]()
Most monitors are magnetically shielded, so are yours (check your manual). ![]()
You will definitely be ok. I have a pair of Event PS-8’s sitting side by side to CRT monitor and have no problems at all.
Thanks for the responses. I figured as much but thought I’d make sure. My workspace isn’t very ergonomic and is kind of thrown together right now. I put the monitors along side the Voyager a couple days ago…because embarrassingly enough…they were on the floor…then I had a brief moment of paranoia about the magnets. I need to get a bigger desk and some stands…
I will go so far as to say that they may effect your theremin if you own one. I know that just the magnetic field from the computer monitor causes an unwanted modulation in the theremin, and no its not just my technique loloo.
I don’t personally see where the magnetic field (if any) would damage your Voyager though. A strong enough magnet might cause some drift PERHAPS. All that i can do is speculate but thanks for asking your question because I had never even considered the possibillity of that happening.
A secondary question…
Could a magnetic field effect the operating system?

I’m just curious what you think it would affect? Magnetic fields that we encounter on a daily basis have almost zero effect on most electronics.
The reason that your 2nd grade computer teacher told you to keep the 5 1/4" floppy disks away from speakers is because they were magnetic storage disks, and could be damaged by it.
Transistors, resistors, etc.. no/little effect
Transformers even won’t be affected. Does your guitar amp sound like hell from a huge powered speaker being 2 inches from your transformers? No.
You’re ok
