I’ve been trying to get comfortable with my ring mod but up until now could not find a use for it.
By using pitch CV from the voyager to a VCO in my modular and using that VCO to the carrier in of the ring mod I can finally get a usefull effect that tracks what I play. (Instead of sound right on one note only) I can also use different waveforms for the carrier. Makes for some interesting sounds. Too bad the internal carrier oscillator isn’t CV at 1V/oct.
THe Ring Mod is superior to the Freq Box in that it tracks much easier and over a broader range. Its only drawback are the limited waveshapes that it puts out.
Now if you run a Voyager pitch out into the carrier in, and then Run the Voyagers audio out into the Ringmods audio in, the audio output from the ringmod will be tracking what you play AND youll still get the sum and difference. I guess thats what you were already doing just adding an external oscillator to the mix.
Then theres always the LOTRM article where it talks about getting your ring mod to function as a VCA. That article is of corse on Knob Tweak if you haven’t already read it a billion times by now.
