ARP SYNC 1.1.16

1.1.16 Sub 37 Setup:

MIDI Input Cable: Yes
MIDI Output Cable: No
USB Cable: Yes

MIDI MENU:
2.1) IN PORTS: BOTH
2.2) OUT PORTS: BOTH

With the above setup, the arp sync will work properly in Ableton when playing back a MIDI clip. But as soon as I click record, the sync goes haywire. Why is it that playback arp sync works properly but not when recording?

If I change IN PORTS to DIN and OUT PORTS to MIDI, then the sync will work properly when recording.

But I’m assuming there is a bug, because the first setup works when playing back. Hitting record should not make any difference, correct?

"MIDI TRACK:
External Instrument:
MIDI TO: Komplete Audio 6 - Channel 1

Audio From: Input 2"

Anybody with Ableton that can confirm this?

probably a MIDI loop, when you hit record it’s echoing MIDI from the Sub 37 output back to the Sub 37 input… if the arp is outputting MIDI and local control is on, then you may be getting doubled notes trying to play… if you want to keep the rest of your setup the same you might try turning local control off while recording. Also you can try different settings for arp MIDI out (global, sequencer options) – KEYS or SEQ will control whether the arpeggiator acts on MIDI notes received via MIDI and doesn’t send out arpeggiated MIDI notes, or does send out arpeggiated MIDI notes in response to local keys… there is probably a setting there that works for you. Are you trying to record audio or MIDI?

Interesting… I thought it may be a MIDI feedback loop too, but I did not see any MIDI being output back to the Sub 37 (when using MIDI Monitor) besides the one note (in ableton) that was triggering the arp and the clock information. That’s why i’m a bit confused. Probably my misunderstanding…

There is a setting that works for me though… so thanks.

I was recording audio.

What setting did you change that made the difference? Thanks
