Hi.
The thread title is not the best. Recommend a better one if you feel need be. (I will edit)
With you gear (Moog) where do you feel you need more knowledge or time to experiment with.
Please contribute if you have knowledge in an area someone else does not.
I was thinking about this while messing with my gear.
I will list a couple. (more to come I am sure)
I need to spend more time using the CV ins and outs on my MuRF.
I need to use the Carrier In jack on my RM more.
For the most part, I only use the FreqBox with the sync turned off.
Someday, I should learn to read music. I’m a technologist more than a musician. As far as the gear goes, I need to figure out a use for the RM. It is too expensive to use merely as a tremolo unit and I find it more usefull with my modular than with my Voyager.
I think if I really knew what I really didn’t know, I would know what to start learning.
Seriously I know I have a lot to learn about synthesis. There are so many good people here to tell me that Im mistaken about some things, but thats the best way for me to learn. Im not trying to do anyone a disservice.
I know if its math related (voltages, resistor values, etc) then I would be more apt to learn to build circuits.
I know I need modules…lots of them. I’ve learned the LP pretty well, and have discovered some neat tricks with the 251, 102, and 103 as well. I’ve also started incorporating the CV inputs on the 'Foogers, which was a recent thing for me. If I had more CV outs, I could practice with that more.
The LP is very limiting as it sits…I badly need to send it in for the CV out upgrade. But I hate being away from it, so I’ll wait until I get settled in with the Taurus once I get that.
I played much, much better when I was 12-15 years old. My skills atrophied when I was in my 20s, since I didn’t touch a synth for the better part of 7 or 8 years. Truth be told I was never that good to begin with, but it’s shocking how bad I am now.
I can’t play the bass like I used too, either. I used to be able to do some hardcore slapping for extended periods (45 minutes) which is pretty difficult.
Now Im lucky if I can do that for a minute straight since ive divided up my attention to different instruments.
Refinement is how aging players make up the difference in their technique. Thats one of the good things about growing older i guess.
