I notice when plugged to an amp, when I insert a cable to the KBD Gate or Filter inputs, there is a humming sound.
This Taurus has sat in one place since I got it and has rarely moved at all. I have only plugged a jack into the cv inputs but a few times.
It seems that the humming will stop if I apply some pressure to the side of the plug, like wiggling it will make the hum stop, but I haven’t tried to see if the jack is still active when doing that.
Check which output you are using. The Hi Z should plug into a bass amp, the Low Z into a line-level input (e.g. mixer). I noticed some pretty decent humming when I first plugged into an amp out of the Low Z. I’ve used the Gate/ Pitch jacks no problem.
Ground loops are a bitch. You’ll rip your entire rig to bits (I did) trying to isolate it only to find that it has to do with house wiring.
Another interesting gremlin comes into play when using an ‘open’ patch panel. I had the input of my Phatty (audio in) wired back to a patch panel so that I could plug any sound source in without re-wiring the keyboard. And when I did… “hummmmmmmm”
I’ve got both of my bass amps and a bunch of other stuff on a single 15 Amp circuit (had to). Ground lift helps if your amp has the ‘feature’ or you can rig one up yourself. Don’t ask me about the Low-Z output of my Taurus, there is a noticeable hum (it’s low but noticeable; I haven’t found anybody else with this issue).
Still it’s pretty scary though. The only isues with my Taurus is an occasional stuck note, but when I got the bad buzz I just knew I was going to have to put it back in the box and return it…something that I don’t ever want to have to do. Id rather drive it to Asheville myself.
