Anyone using Yamaha FC7?

I’m looking for a new expression pedal to use with my Lowpass MF (the stores around here have a hard time getting the Moog ones). Has anyone tried the Yamaha FC7? If so, I have two questions:

(i) How is the voltage sweep for use with Moogerfoogers?

(ii) Does the pedal need power to do CV? Or will it work passive for CV, and just use power for Volume?

I know the cheap M-Audio ones work well electronically, but if the Yamaha does too it would be nice to have the extra weight and size. Thanks…

I have an FC7 and it doesn’t get any use.

Most the sweep happens in the first 20% of the pedals treadle, starting from the heel. This is with all of my pedals including moogerfoogers. I think it is due to the value of the potentiometer not being ideal for most effects pedals (50k or 100k or something.. I read something about it but forget the specifics)

It is a passive pedal and does not require power for operation- I’ve only used it as an expression pedal.

Thanks … that’s what I always worry about with volume pedals doubling as CV, so I guess I’ll stay away.

Volume pots are usually audio taper, rather than linear taper. The Moog expression pedal uses a 50K linear taper pot. Major issues can occur when using a logarithmic taper, which a few companies use, such as Korg. The taper makes more of a difference than the resistance.

I use FC7s and don’t have a huge problem. I like the feel of them, and if I adjust the range using attenuators, I feel I get a musically useful sweep.

I like them better than the Korg or Roland stuff because they have more range to them. The other ones almost feel like a switch they move so little.

I have a Moog EP-2 which is great. Mine broke; I think it’s a short in the cable as it comes out of the pedal. I should probably just get it fixed… I like it a lot and it feels good.

Easy enough fix…shouldn’t cost much. If you’re handy, you could do it yourself.

I use an Mgear EX-P, that’s all they had in store when I purchased my LP.

Pros : low cost, works well.

Cons : probably the flimsiest piece of equipment I ever bought. The peg on the pedal arm lever broke the very first time I used it. I repaired it, it will never break again that’s for sure.

Still, given it’s low cost, I would recommend it. Just don’t even look at it if you don’t have any repair skills (and some spare nuts and bolts).

It’s doing well on the LP alone. Now with the CP-251, I need a couple more. Will check the Moog EP-2 first, though.
