Anyone else using a Tonelab to plug direct to board?

I have been using the Tonelab for direct recording and to the PA for some live gigs. I have been thinking of adding an Art Channel Strip (condensor) into the mix to smooth out some of the inherent noise in going direct. Just wondering what everyone else is using instead of a mic’d amp.

Since no one else has responded, I’ll jump in.

I have a Line 6 POD, Korg AX10G, and Boss VF-1 that get used to process the Voyager for direct recording. Of the three, my fav is the VF-1, a descendant of the Boss SE-50 and SE-70 processors.

Using amp/cabinet simulations on any of these processors will result in some noise. That noise can’t be smoothed out by any means, but can be silenced using a noise gate. Noise gates are typically built into these types of processors for this reason. According to the literature, the ToneLab has some sort of variable noise reduction, but I don’t know what that means and have no idea how it works.

If you are having a noise problem and the ToneLab doesn’t have the built-in tools to address it, you might consider adding a noise gate. I couldn’t find any info on an ART channel strip, so I don’t know if that has a noise gate or will do what you need.
