My new favorite thing to do is use a sample-and-hold signal from the MP-201 to randomly select (via MIDI) which of the four octave settings Oscillator 2 uses. Really a cool sound, especially for arpeggiated sequences, as it adds a bit of randomness.
I’m really amazed at the modulation options that the MP-201 opens up.
If it has a MIDI CC, then you can modulate it. I was also having fun modulating the modulation speed. That makes for a pretty complex modulation signal.
I did run into a bit of a problem when I cranked up the S&H speed too far (I think MIDI is a pretty slow communication standard and it got confused when things happened too fast), but other than that everything works great. It is oddly fun to watch the lights on the LP change with the MP-201 control signals.
It would make sense that MIDI would be slow…it was developed in the '80’s and hardly ever updated…I rarely use it, but if I had an MP-201, I would have to teach myself more about MIDI so I could harness the capabilities of the LP. I think I’ll get myself a couple MIDI cables first. Thanks for all the info!
