Any Good News?

Hi all,

Being an intended future purchaser of a Moog (probably the Sub Phatty initially), I have been reading these forums to check out the experiences of present or past owners. Is it just me or do people have a lot of quality issues with Moog equipment? I read so much about twitchy cut-off pots developing shortly after purchase, oscillators dying spontaneously, badly calibrated machines etc. This does not make me feel great about spending around £800 on a machine which may be fragile and fraught with potential problems.

Is it just that only people with rare problems and gripes write on your forums? If so I’d love to see stuff from people who have enjoyed a long and trouble free relationship with their Moog! I love the way Moogs sound so I really want one but I don’t want to buy a lemon that spends its life in the repair shop!

Mr P

I believe that’s generally true. I think you’d find the same on any other product forum: posts with complaints will always be more numerous and louder. I have had zero issues with my Sub Phatty myself and I’ve had it since it came out (which admittedly isn’t that long ago of course).

I’ve owned my SubP for just short of a year now. I’ve followed the firmware updates closely and seen it mature nicely. I’ve also never experienced any of the faulty hardware issues that have been described in past posts.

Some of the firmware updates have been a little fraught for some users, but I think the worst of that development is past now. There is a post floating around here somewhere that states what firmware all units were shipping with from that date. Apart from the most recent firmware update that accompanies the 1.1 version of the editor, I don’t think there’s been much movement since about August 2013. My SubP is rock solid.

Just my 2c worth. I hope it helps you make a decision.

Cheers,
Murray.

No such problems here. But remember: even if only one instrument of 1000 built got a problem, you will see several people complaining about this here. There are so many silent and happy Moog synth owners out there. And some had bad luck. This is of cause a bad think, but this happens everywhere. My car, a german one, got more quality problems then all my Moog synths together.

No hardware problems with my Sub P. This synth is built solid. But yeah, like till said, every once in a while there will be one with an issue. But when there is Moog will resolve the problem.

Hi again,

Thanks guys for the positive stuff. I shall consider my perspective adjusted and corrected

I own a Voyager, Slim Phatty, Minitaur, and at least one of every moogerfooger (+ a new mf-drive mini). The only problems I’ve ever encountered were results of user-error. I’ve never had a real problem that was actually Moog’s fault.

As a few 'foogers have pointed out, if you visit other forums you’ll find the same thing. If you really wanna see some complaining, go over to the Access Virus forum. hahaha.

Or the Arturia Mini/Micro Brute forums.
