Any experiences with the Thon hardcase?

The ATA hardcase costs three times more than the Thon hardcase. I thought the former would be lighter but it isn’t, and I was amazed that they both weigh so much. 9-12 kg is quite a lot extra weight for a case. So why pay more for the ATA? The wheels?

I have the voyager case from moog and I’m glad I did. The wheels and dolly arm are a godsend, that sob is heavy! But I have a similar case to the thomann for my micromoog and it has protected it quite well for a few years

The Thon seems less solid, doesn’t it? I think I would rush on it if it had the same wheels and arm as the Moog ATA case. I don’t see myself carrying 25kg by arms…

The coffee house I play at from time to time has 4 sets of stairs, the first two were ok carrying, the next two definitely needed to use the wheels

The place I live in is on the third floor. Caramba!

Thanks for the concrete info

I will never buy another polymer case. Yes they are lightweight, but they warp when exposed to heat and sunlight.

The Thon reminded me of a similar case I used to own. The non-recessed latches got banged up to the point they no longer worked. And the ball corners broke away from the corners. And that foam lining is too thin, there is a risk of banging the Voyager cases against the metal extrusion and damaging the wood.

The Thon may be 3x the price but trust me I have been enough cases that I keep coming back to Anvil Cases. They may be expensive but you get what you pay for.

I got one bundled with my Voyager. Been using it for a couple of years now. After a few gigs, and many trips back and forth to studios, it is still going strong. The handle and wheels are particularly sturdy IMO.

The Thon seems really cheaply made. Not enough padding inside to adequately protect the wood finish of the synth (especially in the back where all the weight of the synth will crush it when carried), weak hinges, locks and handle. The side of that case will bulge (where the handle is) under the weight of the Voyager after only a few moves.

Not worth the money IMHO.
