Annoying High Freq noise in Moog Solar w/backlights on.

Hi there. I have just recieved my moog voyager solar and am very happy with it, all except for the noise with the backlights activated. It’s loud and very distracting.

I know it does not come out on the main out, but I can hear it even over music being played gigging. This is really not acceptable for a product at this price point. Sometimes I work in dim studio setting and require that this part of the product be working as it should. It certainly was not advertised as “back lighting with high frequency noise”.

How could I contact moog in order to recitify this? And does anyone know of any fixes that moog makes on the units etc…

Many thanks.

Dan

I think most of our Voyagers have this noise if you turn the lights up too high. Do you still hear it when you dim them a little?

There is no fix…You can turn down the intensity to reduce the hum.
I’m curious, what style of music are you playing where you can hear the hum from the light above your music ? did you try turning up your amp

As soon as the lights come on I can hear it.

The more I turn it up the louder it gets.

I love the instrument but cannot accept this flaw… What would my options be at this point. Keep in mind that I would prefer to keep it, if there was a solution.

If the noise is unacceptable to you at any level of illumination, and you want to keep your Voyager, you only have one option:

Turn the backlight off.

Hey there. I just received my Electric Blue and it has the same problem. It states in the manual that you should try to find a happy medium between the noise and the degree of backlight.

I agree, for the amount you pay for such a fine product, a quirk like this is fairly disappointing…

I don’t find it too disconcerting personally. My Solar was cheaper than buying a Performer edition. So in the end I get a discount for having a backlight I don’t have to use if I don’t want. If you paid more just to get the backlight, I can understand the frustration.

keep an eye on the Moog newsletter and webpage news… the new Voyagers are using a 2nd-generation panel backlight that does not make annoying noise. Plans are in the works to offer this “Quiet II Technology” as a factory upgrade for existing AE/Electric Blue/Solar backlit Voyagers who would like the backlight without the noise. Pricing and date of availability are still TBD (nobody is back from NAMM yet). Still, I thought you’d like to know…

this is good to know.

I didn’t want to give up the synth. I’m truly beginning to love it.
