Can we get more detail on how to setup the Little Phatty and Animoog together. How is the affect achived to get polyphony working together between the two?

It seems there are two things going on in the LP + Animoog demo. I don’t have first-hand knowledge of the exact setup featured in Marc Doty’s demo video, but I can wager a guess based on what I can see.
First, you have just plain ol’ LP 1/4" analog audio out. It appears the LP is set to low-note priority, which means the left hand can play single notes while the right hand plays single notes or chords without cutting off the left hand’s notes. When played with no MIDI connections in this mode, you still simply have a monophonic Little Phatty.
Second, there’s the iPad with Animoog and the Alesis IO Dock. I don’t believe the dock can use the Stage II’s USB MIDI, so it’s likely connected via MIDI DIN to the dock. While the LP is a monophonic instrument, it’s still capable of sending polyphonic note data. This means you can use your incredible analog monophonic synthesizer as a simple MIDI controller if you’d like.
Combining the two, you have the analog out of the LP layered with the polyphonic output from the iPad.
I can’t wait to try this. I went to purchase an iPad today at lunch, but Micro Center didn’t honor their previous day’s $50 off sale; I shall wait longer. I have, however, purchased both Filtatron and Animoog at these unbelievable prices.
EDIT: Crap, it basically spells this all out right under the video. The important part I guess is the low-note priority if you expect to be able to have some bass action going.
Sweet! I will be trying this out when I get home from work tonight. Now to figure out where the note priority is on my Phatty…
Note priority is available as a global setting as well as a per-preset setting. The default setting for KEYBD PRIORITY in the MASTER MODE main menu is LAST NOTE and each preset’s default setting is GLOBAL, which means every preset inherits the LAST NOTE setting from the MASTER MODE setting; this way, you can simply change it the the MASTER MODE main menu setting to LOW NOTE and have each preset reflect the changes. Just remember to change it back to LAST NOTE when you’re not using Animoog, as low note priority can be frustrating if you’re not used to it. (Low note priority was the only option on the Minimoog Model D – well, without physically rewiring it, I believe.)
You can also change it for each preset in the ADVANCED PRESET menu, where it’s also named KEYBD PRIORITY.
It’s pretty fun, I got an Alesis IO today and tried this out. They sound great together!
Ok, I’m a bit of a novice when it comes to Moog synths so bear with me. I own the standard Little Phatty Stage II. If I purchased the Alesis IO dock, would I be able to play the Animoog voices through the Little Phatty keyboard, or would Animoog simple modify the Little Phatty voices?
Thanks
Andrew
Awesome! Are you having any issues with the setup? Some folks have mentioned having issues with Animoog interpreting a MIDI Note Off as a Note On (thread here).
I have had some issues with stuck notes, and had to use the PANIC button on the Setup page. Also I have now noticed that a couple patches don’t respond to external midi input — strange! I am sure they will fix these issues as they update. Still pretty friggin cool for $1, although since this was what put me over the edge to grab the Alesis IO, perhaps I should say it cost me $201 ![]()
