Analog sequencers...

Hello all! I was just wondering if there would be any benefit to using an analog sequencer for my MMV rather than using my motif. Anyone?
Thanks
Josh

Analog sequencers are normally not fixed to scales. So you are able to get just intervalls or off notes. This is part of the analog sequencer charme.

And some analog sequencers are not able to play all the notes with the very same duration/length. This makes sequences nicer, although this is caused by an design error of some analog step sequencers.

i have a future retro mobius that adds a ton of fun to my Voyager RME. very cool for sketch padding, not to mention for sequencing other things besides pitch/gate!

I’d really recommend the Doepfer MAQ 16/3. It’s a MIDI AND an analog seque. Each of the three seques (16 stages each) puts out a CV and a gate. In addition, you have a MIDI out that you can set each seque for: channel/any CC/note on/etc. Plus, it’s just a lot of fun having 48 knobs to twiddle. (that would sound REALLY dirty if I were English…).

Anyway, the sequencer on your workstation is really more for song composition. An analog sequencer is more for note loops, or timbre changes WITHIN a song. Hope this makes some sense…
