This seems like an obvious refinement to the MF-104: delay time synced to midi clock. The delay already chops the audio into slices, why not sync them to midi clock? So you can actually build loops in time with your DAW project.
I agree this would be an awesome, however I don’t know how possible it’d be, are there any analog delays out there that can do this? i know the diamond memory lane does tap-tempo delay.
all I want for xmas is a 'Fooger that revolutionizes my role as a guitarist & effectist as much as the CP-251 did.
Like we really need another midi-mod to our beautiful, analog mindbenders. Its like its the 1980s or something again. We have perfect infinite analog devices but people want midi functions…well that tech is outdated and just obscures the path being paved with the Moogerfoogers, IMO…
Man, that is one of the best sounding delays I have ever heard. It goes with ANYTHING. It does so much to the sound of a Voyager or Theremin or even my Micro and Rhodes, man you can boycott it if you like but you are doing yourself a disservice.
I believe that I read somewhere on here that Amos wrote (and Ill paraphrase) that having midi control over a delay pedal won’t really work because all delays aren’t created equal. Now Im pulling this from memory, mind you, but two delays don’t act the same way so even if you cold retrofit midi to the delay, a midi signal from 1 device will react differently to different delay pedals.
So in other words don’t hold your breath too long.
Hi EricK, having thought about it for a bit, I admit that syncing the delay time to midi clock would be a mess especially if the tempo varied. But even if the tempo was extremely accurate, you can’t change the delay time to try to match the sequencer’s time without odd sounding artifacts.
But then how you set the delay time to exactly match tempo? I want to capture a 1 bar loop of sound and have it repeat in time with the sequencer. If only software can do this, then the 104 isn’t for me.
I bought the 105M and hooked it up to Logic for Midi clock once. I much rather enjoy using CV generated from my LP.
I haven’t looked at the Analog Delay closely enough to see what type of CV ins/it has mainly because I want one so bad but don’t have the cash!!, but in general, I’m striving for less digital noise in my gear and more analog control.
But I could see value in equipping the 104 as an “M” version for those that leverage Midi across their studio.
I have a related question; has the 104 spillover switch mod been offered as a 1/4" in add-on (using either an existing port or a new jack), the thought is that you could attach a standard footswitch or special latching footswitch as used in on/off applications and be able to control live while playing. I’ve read that it would cost more to implement such as modification but I’d like to see that well ahead of any midi functionality.
You shohuld ask them about that, im sure they could do it. It might cost around 200 bucks or so, thats just an estimate. I don’t know how difficult that would be to implement.
I’m confused that midi is somehow bad. You are welcome to an aversion to digitally generated sounds, but every analog sequencer has a digital clock and every analog delay uses a digital clock. MIDI sync is a digital clock and is no different to an s-trigger gate. Its a real time signal with the refinement that the listening device can recognise it and potentially several other signals on the same bus.
MIDI sync, start and stop is a commonly known way to gets things in time. The timing errors can be minimal with the right setup. And of course other midi messages like note on, channel and poly pressure quickly fill up the bandwidth and throw things out of time. But a clean midi link just sending midi sync should be quite reliable.
IMO, the 104 already has a clock. Its a shame to not be able to control it along with a sequencer.
See? If I hold my breath for long enough Moog will give in and let me have what I want…
Not sure how I feel about that now, because the Eventide Time Factor is so amazing. I do like the cruchiness in a BB delay, but Time Factor is a whole parallel universe (and a better one).
You can always do 3 payment layaway with sweetwater.com. I need to get around talking to them about it, because I missed out on the MF-104Z, so I’ll make damn sure I don’t miss the boat on the MF-104M & MF-108M. I’ll probably even save up for a Phatty synth as well.
