Accident with my Phatty

Thought id share this unfortunate event with you guys..

Few weeks ago i was changing round my studio and i moved my phatty from the solid studio desk its sat on for over a year..to swap places with the nord lead 3 which sat on one of them z stand things that fold down…

I wanted to get the phatty better situated for use with the moogers you know from the cv inputs so ive not so much wires hangin everywhere..

At this point i want to point out ive worked my ASS off for over a year to build the studio of my dreams (Voyager, Moogers, Phatty, Nord 3 etc etc etc) and im very proud and attached to all my gear…They are immaculate, which is the way it should be.

So…im adjusting the keyboard stand to get it to sit perfectly with the rubber feet on the phatty…must have lifted the thing off the stand about 10 times to try to perfectly adjust the stand exactly to my preference… Each time carefully placing the phatty on my studio chair…BUT this last time i did it i thought “Damn, ill just balance it with one arm while the other arm adjusts the stand”…Well, can you guess what happened next??

Yup, the stand collapsed and the phatty tipped down the back of it. My heart sunk as i looked at its underside fearing the worst…rushed to pick it up, flipped it over to find just a couple minute scratches right at the bottom back silver panel, right at the underside almost…and the right rubber panel has a 1cm long small scratch on it, which i now will need to replace…where the phatty fell i had a big curtain which it basically slid down, if that wasnt there id have been goosed as it would have hit that wall, and more damage would have happened.

I think i got off lightly as the actuall main facing of the instrument is still immaculate, and the knobs as well…works brilliantly and not a mark on the keys…just the tiny mark on the rubber panel.

Moral of this story, dont take any chances with your instruments. always stay on the safe side where you know your babys will always be safe.

Im going to get beautiful new wooden side panels made in january for my favourite toy. I never realised i had such an emotional attachment to it until i near lost it.

Take care guys and merry christmas xxx

I would never take any risk with any of my equipment, good for you it’s still working though.

Glad there wasn’t any major damage. Even when we’re careful things can happen .

Years ago a friend was by the studio working on an audio project, before I could tell him not to pull up on the cross brace of the Roc Steady stand( without thinking he was playing with it while we talked) , a DX7 was slowly followed by a MemoryMoog falling to the floor. The MemoryMoog caught the power cord of a Korg MS10 on another stand, but the High A key on the Z1 slowed its fall. Only major damage was a snapped key on the Z1. Oh and he scratched up his arm trying to stop the MemoryMoog from falling, worked it missed crushing the DX ny ¼” , can’t do a Maxwell Smart in post so…

Man I probably wouldn’t be able to crap for about a week if that happened.

I think my friend wouldn’t be able to.. :smiling_imp:

I never try to adjust the stands with a weight on it. There’s thing called “gravity”
and it has a habit of working better on heavier objects, the higher up they go.

And Murphy’s Law also applies as well as the Law of gravity. If you have a large,
heavy, expensive object and you try to take a shortcut with it, it will fall.
