Ableton sending midi to Moog

Hello there, just got my Voyager and was playing around with Ableton Live. One Major reason I want to send midi from Live to the Voyager is to be able to automate the LFO sync in a very controlled way.

I Played around with that last night but for some reason could not get it working. I just read a post here that said the LFO can be re-triggered by MIDI sync but not actually synced. Is this correct?

Does anyone trigger clips in live to control the moog? Any tips? Any tips on LFO sync?

Thanks.

you know i had a really hard time getting the ableton live’s midi working with my voyager but i think i got most the functions working at this point.

I usually use the midi effects and the piano roll to sequence or arpeggiate the voyager and the lfo sync (which for me worked right out of the box)

The LFO is analog so there is no way to get it to cycle in perfect sync with live, but you can get it to restart in sync with live. make sure that in ableton you go to your preferences and make sure that the sync button next to the midi out device is on for the channel being sent to your voyager. Next on your voyager make sure that the knob under your LFO is set to Midi, and that should pretty much do it. The range is often times a lot smaller so try moving the lfo knob around untill you see it blinking.

for the midi, just go to your master menu and find MIDI IN set it to on make sure its on the right channel and get to sequencing!

im more familiar with the voyager than live though so i might not understand what exactly your trying to do. By trigger do you mean triggering the voyager with an external controller like a drum pad or some kind of button?

Thanks for the help!

I own an APC. I want to do a live looping act. I figure that for the dancier stuff, hitting clips, which send midi notes, and cc “loops” could be cool. Also sending program changes.

I think I know the workaround I will do about sending how much of cc#3. It will all depend upon what tempo I am at. Live can do anything with tempo I will have to watch out. Maybe I need to look in to the new MURF or something else.

Any other tips on how to LFO this puppy? I am getting in to dubstep and electro and need some wobble ASAP.

like i said the lfo can be reset, but you can’t get the 1/32 1/16 1/8 1/4 1/2 time stepping effect that you hear on a lot of the dubstep tracks. I think that is a pretty much vst and software synth related effect. Most if not all analog keyboards won’t give you that kind of tempo syncing. just find where the lfo fits perfectly into the tempo your working with and maybe find where the double time is and mark it. i don’t know… here is a sample of one of my tracks featuring some serious voyager wobble, this was done without the lfo sync and instead the lfo on a medium speed and lfo sync is set to KB. try messing with the lfo clock divider in the edit menu and just try doing it by hand without sync a lot of times this is the best way to get that really swingin’ wobble.

What if you routed the voyager’s audio into live, and then put a compressor being sidechained from a kick. On the kick track you could have different clips with different divisions and patterns. this wouldn’t work for most uses, but it might be good for some wobble.

btw I have been browsing this forum for a while but this is my first post.

As already being said, it’s not possible to get the lfo perfect in sync with ableton automatically.

But if you use a software sequcencer like ableton, you should not need that analog lfo if you want a synced modulation!

What do you want to modulate with the lfo? Filter? Pitch? Okay, it does not matter, but to get a rhythmic modulation of the pitch, you could create a midi part in ableton live which is e.g. 1 beat long and contains nothing but a filter envelope in the shape of a triangle. Now you can loop this part and send the midi to your voyager.
