A quick review of the T3

Well I got home from a pre-lunch class and saw this huge box sitting in the foyer and I belched out a laugh to make Vincent Price sound like Mickey Mouse.

I opened the box carefully…no tshirt.

I have no great bass amp and using headphones I ran the LowZ to the mixer because I don’t want my head to explode so I haven’t heard its monstrous bass yet.

I was pretty moved by how big the sucker is. I saw one on the burn-in rack when I went to the factory in January, but it was at head level so I didn’t get a very good overall look at it then. This thing has a pretty huge footprint.

Something that may interest you guys though is I did manage to hook the EW+ up to it and it tracks very well with the pitch and gate CV. WHen you exceed the limits of the Taurus, it just maxes out at its highest pitch, no Ring Modulation like the Freqbox. They did a doog job of capping out the voltage that it will accept to prevent us from blowing the unit up. I DID NOT experience any zippering like I do with the Voyager when the Theremin is in its lowest register. The deep low end makes the Etherwave sound very full and rich.

I tried to use the Voyager’s Pitch CV out into the Taurus to see how it tracked, and it tracked perfectly though at an interval, third or fourth or so.

I thought that cosmetically, it looks perfect. A very pristine looking and feelinf unit overall.

I do have a litle concern about the input jacks being so close to the floor, they seem to want to be a great series of labyrinths for dust and debris. Some type of Cap would be nice like the old rubber caps for the RCA plugs on old stereos.

Also, I have ben toying with the MIDI functionality with no luck. Trying to get low droning basslines with the left hand while I solo with my right on the Voyager’s keyboard is what im after…so far it eludes me.

Overall Im stunned at how huge the unit is.

The only unfortunate thing about it is that im nearing a deadline for two papers and I have lots of reading to catch up on over the next few days and tests to study for, otherwise Id be spending a lot more time taming the bull.

Eric

Sorry about your shirt. Email Moog, and they’ll send you one. I got mine.

Remember: the guys get shirts.

Don’t worry about School getting in the way of Taurus. Just quit/drop out/throw in the towel [insert explicative here].

What would you rather have a piece of paper with a fancy embossed seal or go on tour with Toto? (btw: that’s a trick question, you have both because your Taurus came with a fancy Certificate of Authenticity).

Listen to the last 10 seconds of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Welcome to the Pleasuredome” for a good maniacal laugh; at least that’s that I’m thinking you did when you got home.

Well deserved, character building exercise, Eric. Glad you finally got yours now lets see you crank out some funk whilst kick’in it.
