A modern polyphonic moog?

Will a modern polyphonic moog ever come out?

I am not a fan of the prophets because to my ears they don’t sound like a synth should. But the polyphony is pretty cool and something I’d like to see from moog one day.

I know I can chain some phattys up etc, but looking at the werkstadt shows, maybe 6 of those built into a knob per function casing, maybe with a patch bay for some of the same modularity the werkstadt has…

Seems like it could be done? Ok maybe not for under $2500 as I would like… But not impossible?

Feel free to correct me, I realise six sets of patch bays for each oscillator might not be… Practical…

Do your homework and search this forum and you will find many, many discussions at length about this. Been there, done that.
NEXT ! :unamused:

Sorry. I didn’t see anything on the werkstatt side of things, only the bigger more expensive mini moog voyager side of things, which would be way out most peoples budgets.

Haven’t you heard of daisy-chaining Little Phatties by now ?

Haven’t you read the original post? Oh, no you haven’t.

A modern polyphonic Moog of the quality of the Voyager will never happen, for several reasons. Case closed.

I hope I’m proven wrong one day, but I doubt it very much, unfortunately. And yes I read your OP, that was a sarcastic response about chaining LP.

But that shouldn’t stop you from building your own polyphonic Moog, from several Werkstatts ? :sunglasses:

The OP wants a polyphonic Moog.

And the OP wants it for a certain price point.

Remind me never to go into the synth business…

.

Wait 'til the next year and it’s very likely that your patience will be rewarded…

Tell that to lushr.
And don’t forget that it has to be affordable, according to one of the criteria of the OP… :smiling_imp:

Me, I’ve simply given up on the idea.

There are so many options for polys, and most modern ones are compromised in some way. A poly voyager with just 4 voices would cost over 10k. Also, you can build a poly voyager with rme’s and a midi processor. That said, they did build a $150,000 synth, so I don’t see it as a problem technically, just that it would not make sense financially.

And they also built a 14k Voyager and a 6k guitar.

Just build a polyphonic modular and be done with it.

a modern polyphonic moog ?

the “polypiano”, 88 notes, no flaw flaws, just Moog piano sounds, analog of course… Yes they can !

“Moog piano sounds, analog of course” ???

WTF is that ?

If you want analog piano sounds, buy yourself a Yamaha C3! Not a polyphonic Moog !
Anyway a polyphonic moog will probably cost as much, and certainly not sound as good for piano sounds… :smiling_imp:

The OP acknowledged it probably couldn’t be a “budget” synth at $2500… I can wish. But you know for a poly moog… Well I might just sell my car.

Is that based in fact or fiction? And yeah are we talking another $15,000+ synth?

If the werkstatt can be pumped out at $300 and still sound great then…

I wish I worked at moog, I’d solder myself one together! It would take me about three months though

I HAD a polyphonic Moog. It wasn’t what you all seem to wish it was. I am still suprised they tried it twice. One was horrible and the other was merely problematic. And EVERYONE complained it didn’t sound like a MiniMoog!
If it would have been remotely stable, I MIGHT have kept it.
I’ll stick with great mono synths and not want compromised polys.

I won’t tell ya

The only thing that I can tell for sure in general is, a VCO synth will never come at i.e. a Prophet 12 for 2 1/2 Ks. But 15 Ks, that would be crazy and very likely let the producer go bankrupt in these days.
An insider has told me a few days ago three big music stores here in this country closed definitively.
And the synth market is over-saturated.

What country are you in Megavoice, may I ask ?

And, just curious, what stores are those ?

Well there is the Schmidt for $22,500. For those of us in the states, the Euro is down so it’s cheap.

Then there is the Modulus for $7K (USD) but it’s digital front end. Sounds good to me and the filter looks great.

I wonder how the take up was on the Slim Phatty ‘Poly’ paradigm, in other words, how many people bought at least 3 of them or maybe 2 to add to their Little Phatty and how that worked out. It certainly looked good on TV.

This Poly still holds it’s own…

I’m in a European country where people have money and the majority in usual buy their instruments and gear mostly only because of this…
And what makes me even more angry musicians and very good musicians diminished in number obviously with 80-90%.
Audience who had been interested in band playing as well…
For young new and still unknown groups it’s almost impossible to gather some people in a room.
Ten years ago when I came back to the ART rock band playing and had been looking for good musicians the advertisment paper had been loaded great with musicians and very skilled ones who liked to play.
When I’m opening up every saturday now there are only about 2 o 3, and nothing to do with rock music or ART rock.
Interest in band playing obviously diminished dramatically and to find a keyboarder who likes to play synths, organ and piano is almost impossible to find…
It’s sad, sad, sad…
In other parts of this country it seems to be slightly better, or praobably far more better in much bigger towns, but also decreasing…
I’m living in a town with 200 ks of habitants…and possibilites for gigging diminished almost to zero, because people who live in the same places always complained about the noise, and performances had to stop.

The stores had been general music stores who sold up from guitars, drums, keyboards to everything else…
