2nd oscillator frequency - noob question

hi all!

Well, i’m sure a noob in analog world, so i don’t know if this is normal: i can’t get a chorus effect with adding 2nd oscillator without having a strange effect of oscillation, especially when i use overload. Here i recorded a small example: http://www.sendspace.com/file/msxkqf This is a basic 2 oscillators patch with overload to max and 2nd oscillator detuned to get chorus effect. The oscillation effect is really evident, especially with the higher notes. Is this normal?

thanks in advance!

nobody can tell me if that effect is normal?

That’s absolute normal.
Have fun,
Rudi

ok, thank you very much! so to get very detuned oscillators with overload i probably need an external chorus effect?

Any two frequencies played together will oscillate at the rate of difference in frequency, providing they are close in fundamentals.

Detuning and Chorus are two very different effects. I think I’ve heard people confuse these before when trying to “thicken” the sound, is that what you’re trying to do?

Depending on your DAW and available effects, I’d probably recommend trying some Parallel Processing sending the signal to two separate channels, one with fx and one clean, and blending the two together. Google Parallel Processing.

thank you dom. yes, probably i have no clear the difference between detune and chorus…i thought they work similar in processing the audio signal. I was asking about that because on digital synth i didn’t notice this thing of self oscillation in detuning
