104z mix expression pedal question

Hello all. I’m new to the forum. I have a question that I was hoping someone could help me with.

I recently acquired a 104z analog delay. I seem to be having trouble when connecting an EP2 to the mix control jack. I would like to have the expression pedal cover a range from 0-4.5. My understanding is that in order to do this, I turn the mix knob on the fooger to 0 and the attenuator on the EP2 to noon. This does not happen, however. When I do this, I get a range of mix level from about 2-3.

What am I doing wrong? Or do I have a faulty unit?

Thanks,
Will

It’s analog. Any setting is an approximation. Turn up the pot on the EP2 until you get what you want.

Thanks for the reply.

When I turn up the pot on the EP2, I the heel setting is no longer 0. Is this normal?

No that is not normal. All the way up you should be able to swing 0 to 10 with the mix at 0 on the 104. Turning down the pot on the EP2 should limit the range. Don’t know whether the trouble is the 104 or your EP2.

Ah. Thanks for the help. I have two EP2’s and they both have the same effect. I suppose its a problem with the mix jack on the 104. Oh well, I guess its time to test out Sweetwater’s famed customer support.

Moog says thats how its supposed to function. There is no way to get a 100% dry signal at the heel and a 50-50 mix at the toe. If I want to keep the heel position all dry signal and go to a 50-50 mix then I just need to leave the attenuator all the way up and only move the EP2 up halfway. Strange, because the other two jacks (Feedback and Time) don’t function that way. Unfortunate. I’m very disappointed.

Doesn’t the MP201 have programmable heel and toe destinations?

I’ve poked around all the Moogerfooger circuits (working on the Moogertron) and there are certainly a few differences with the 104 (I have the SD). For example, the ground (sleeve) connection is separate for the audio outputs and CV inputs.

I think it has something to do with VCA control of all knobbed parameters. The manual states that no audio signal ever passes through the pots on the unit to avoid crackly signals when they age.

Hmmm. I suppose I could go the multipedal route, but It would kinda suck to drop another $500 (bringing the grand total to $1200) in order to get the mix control to do what I want it to. Anyone know, would it be possible to mod an expression pedal in order to get it to do what I want, or is there no getting around the nature of the mix CV jack?

I’m just disappointed because the ability to control the mix on the fly was the reason that I bought the 104 in the first place. I’m a guitar player and my hands are otherwise occupied.

Thanks for all your info and suggestions folks.

Can’t you run 2.5v through an attenuator to get this behaviour?
