Re: RE: Mini / Multi - Home Recording (FX)?

Piktor, Tom's response: "The Multi was conceived of as a "front end" to a modular system, i.e. as a controller. If you look at what we put on the back, it would do this pretty well! So, does this mean, please, that you could (for instance) come out of a JUNO 6 , into the MULTIMOOG (w...

Re: RE: Mini / Multi - Home Recording (FX)?

Hi Paul, Oh wow yes, was that YOU ? I never realized until just now! lol I like all of the (very helpful) CAPTIONS throughout your demonstrations. If you assign the PEDAL to control PITCH BEND (as you do in the above video), then does this allow you to free up the MOD WHEEL to control something tota...

Re: RE: Mini / Multi - Home Recording (FX)?

Paul and MRNUTTY, Maybe this response will address both of your questions/comments. Coleman Hawkins - great example of expression Just to underscore breath controllers again, the DX7 had a native breath controller for it's best reed imitations. Other Yamaha synths also have specific algorithms for r...

Re: RE: Mini / Multi - Home Recording (FX)?

MRNUTTY, Re: your question regarding production notes on "that tune" I am going to assume that you are referring to "While You See a Chance" (Winwood). For some reason, I can remember some specific details from select magazine articles that I read decades ago. I was unable to fin...

Re: RE: Mini / Multi - Home Recording (FX)?

Hi Paul, Been loosely following this thread and I just thought that I would interject for moment to offer a little information. I'm not sure if you are literally trying to get the sound of a saxophone on the Multimoog, or if you are trying to get an expressive sound that is saxophone-like. I am far ...

Re: The Manfred Mann Minimoog/Oberheim SEM combo

I don't know if this fully answers the OP's question, but I recall some information from interviews in Keyboard Magazine that I read long ago. 1. Mann did not use the Minimoog exclusively. He also used the Electrocomp 101. http://www.platform-end.co.uk/html/moogs.html 2. I wasn't aware that Mann had...

Re: RIP Kevin Lightner/Synthfool

I did not know Kevin personally, but I became aware of him and his wisdom through this site. Several years ago, when I had occasion to ask a question about some restoration work on my Multimoogs, he was very helpful in hooking me up with the Teflon tape that I needed. I was very grateful for his hel...

Re: Getting more juice out of old gear: The Multimoog

Hi c-level, Thanks for trying to solve the mystery. If you watch the longest of my YT videos and have a good look at how crudely I built the voltage control pedal, you can see that I barely know which end of the soldering iron to hold. :) I don't really know how or why signals are flowing in or out ...

Re: Getting more juice out of old gear: The Multimoog

Thanks for the information unfiltered37. I thought that might be the case. Thanks for the tip about the MPU 101 Kevin. I bought that unit so long ago, I can't remember if I was aware of the trim pots at the time. I also wanted to thank you for hooking me up with your very last pitch ribbon and some ...

Re: Getting more juice out of old gear: The Multimoog

Thanks for the questions Paul and thanks for the You Tube comments. I responded to your YT questions there. (Could not figure out how to edit my spelling and grammatical errors though.) That is my other Multimoog in the videos. It functions, but needs a little attention right now. I interfaced the t...

Getting more juice out of old gear: The Multimoog

I realize the some of the most popular posts on this forum are about new gear. I know, because I read them too. Despite that, I hope that no one minds that this post goes in the opposite direction. I love it when someone gives me a useful idea about how I can do something new with an old piece of eq...

Re: Want breath control for your Moog??

All of the Kurzweil keyboards that feature VAST have Release Velocity as a control
source for any parameter that can be modulated (which is almost all of them).
I agree with you that it's a sadly overlooked control source.

Thanks Demon Dan. Clearly, I don't around enough.

Re: Want breath control for your Moog??

A breath controller for any synth is a great thing, but I believe that you do require a means for converting the midi control message into a voltage control. I have used a Yamaha BC2 breath controller with a Multimoog. The chain is midikeyboard controller to Yamaha MCS2/BC2 combo to a Roland MPU 101...
