Re: sub 37 versatility

the oscillators on the Sub 37 interfere with each other creating an ugly stepping/beating effect making this impossible Well, something's wrong. Mine definitely does not have an ugly stepping/beating effect (unless I want it). Could you post a sound file and patch settings? Hmm... Could you make a ...

It's crucial that the MIXER knobs are set at 5 (12 o'clock) or less for "clean" tones as they're all designed to clip above 5.
Yes of course, I'm not a complete noob... :)

Re: sub 37 versatility

I just got a Sub 37, and I definitely remember Voyager (which I owned some years ago) having a greater range of *musical* tones, when adding various kinds of modulation. If say you want to add some slight slow lfo vibrato to one of two oscillators to get that Pat Metheny synth solo sound (ideally wi...

Re: Sub 37 - Non-Tribute Edition?

Seriously, who cares? Just buy the Sub 37 if you want/need it now - if not, don't buy it. I don't understand the problem.

Re: S37 - Ladder Filter Collapsing!

Thanks Moog. So the bad filter cutoff pots are in a small minority, that's good news. Though, I still wonder what prompted Moog to alter the circuit board of the Sub 37, and what exactly was changed/improved. Anyways, can't wait to get my hands on the Sub 37 I've ordered... :)

Sub61, a third oscillator, a FFB section, and a third mod section would do it for me :-)
Sub49, a third oscillator, FM and the high-end semi-weighted keyboard from Fatar would be the perfect synth for me! :)

Re: S37 - Ladder Filter Collapsing!

Well, that's the problem. We don't know if the filter cutoff pot on every Sub 37 unit will develop this issue at some point (ie. Moog using a technically subpar hardware component), or if only certain Sub 37 units are affected (ie. the supplier/brand of the pot has poor quality control, and only som...

Re: S37 - Ladder Filter Collapsing!

I expect a Sub 37 (fresh from the factory) arriving at my local store the upcoming week. Do these units also have this flaw? Should I rather wait for the next batch/shipment 4-5 weeks from now? Even if the filter cutoff knob doesn't break during the first few months, this hardware defect could pop u...

Re: Moog should make a portable synth with a larger keyboard

Putting the mod and pitch wheels on the top panel above the keyboard is a bad idea according to my opinion. My Nord stage 2 (wheel and stick on the upper left side above the keys) plays not so intuitive with the wheels as the Sub 37 does. Personally I am happy with the amount of keys on the sub37, ...

Re: Moog should make a portable synth with a larger keyboard

I don't buy the argument that the synth would become too large. Moog could put the mod- and pitch wheels up on the left side of the panel above the keyboard, so the keyboard itself takes up the entire width of the synth. That way, a Moog Sub 49 (4 octaves) wouldn't be that much larger than the 37 ve...

Re: Moog should make a portable synth with a larger keyboard

Thanks for the comments. Yes, I have to use a midi controller as keyboard for the Sub 37, but improvising on the Moog instrument itself is much more satisfying and inspiring. Imagine a Sub 49 (four octaves), that would be excellent. I would buy that in a heartbeat, and I think a lot of performing mu...

Moog should make a portable synth with a larger keyboard

Hi, The new Sub 37 from Moog is great, and I like the less "well-behaved" sound (ie. closer to the Model D). However, as a jazz/fusion/prog musician, playing on a 3 octave keyboard is very limiting. 3.5 octaves is a minimum for comfortable playing, but 4 octaves is preferable. Moog should ...

Re: MiniMoog Voyager vs Sub 37 - sound quality

Thanks for the comments and the youtube video link, I hadn't seen that one before. Wow, pretty big difference... I went ahead and ordered a Sub 37 today. Everything I've read about it, seems like this is "the one". :) The local store told the Sub 37 is selling particularly well, so I'm sur...

MiniMoog Voyager vs Sub 37 - sound quality

Hi, I'm thinking about ordering a Sub 37, and I was wondering what you people think about it's sound quality (oscillators and filters) vs. Voyager? (In other words, does the Sub 37 have its own sound character vs. the Sub Phatty?) I had a Voyager some years ago, but sold it for practical reasons. It...
