I smell a shill bidder. Look at the bid history, the shiller has zero feedback and pushes it from 850 to 1500. I didn't think of that. I was watching the auction, and at one point early on it went from around $300 up to $600, then around $700 (both the same person), then the bids were withdrawn, th...

taurus II pedals

Are we allowed to discuss auctions here? This one's already done: Taurus II bass pedal auction $1525.00!!! :o Unbelievable! I thought they were too expensive when they bounced up to $700 (which appeared to be the reserve). I gave up at that point, but when I just checked again I saw what they sold f...

low-pass filter and prehistoric fuzz

With all this talk recently of the Bass MURF and the new delays, how about a post featuring the good ol' MF-101? I recorded and mixed this over the past couple of days: motorized mammoth (sorry, link's gone, but at the moment you can hear it at myspace.com/hieronymous ) Both basses are basically the...

I can totally see what you guys are saying - if I look deep inside myself, I'm a bit of a gear snob (and I actually don't have to look to deeply!). However, do we really have to perpetuate this view? It's like when people start talking about Rogues and Sources and someone says, "but have you ev...

Realistic was the brand name for stuff that Radio Shack put out.

I have a feeling that only an audience full of musician geeks would have even noticed. I don't think the general audience is that edumacated...

do you have the moog ring mod too? how does it compare to the frostwave? Unfortunately, I don't have the ring modulator. I've considered it, but there's other stuff I want to get first! The Frostwave Resonator is a filter (it actually has a high-pass and a low pass filter), based on the Korg MS-20 ...

Here's a patch I did at least a year ago - I guess I'll call it the "Prolegomenon Frequency-Shift Drone": http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/5120/prolegomenonpatch6wj.jpg Let's see - I think the signal is going from my Rogue into the HAO A/B-Parallel box, in this case splitting the signal....

Re: ZAPPA, I don't actually think the two songs listed-- "Pink Napkins" and "Ship Ahoy" use the same effect, do they? I'm operating from memory here, but I recall "Ship" has the sample and hold thing happening, and "Pink" is this really thick, phased sound th...

Personally, I'm a fan of old-school flanging, where they would sync two reels and then slow one down with their finger - at least I think that's how it worked! "Axis Bold As Love" from Jimi Hendrix's album of the same name comes to mind, though of course the effect tended to get overused.....

"Ship Ahoy" and "Pink Napkins" are favorites of mine as well, but I think it's misleading to refer to the sound as "envelope-phased" - my guess is that it's sample-and-hold applied to some kind of filter. I think you're more likely to get that sound with the MF-101 (low...

why bother trying to recreate old sounds? make new ones! explore the instrument you're lucky enough to own, and make cool sounds - noone in the audience is gonna be like, "ah, his sound isn't like a moog" - use effects and your own ingenuity and make sounds of your own, and the audience wi...
