Re: museum of synthesizer tehnology

I'm pretty sure I saw a chunk of the museum in the basement of Turnkey music in London in '98. They had some kind of deal where you buy a sampler or something and could do a sample session or something odd like that, but I think it was mostly for show at least at the time. Anyway the gear and then T...

Re: swarmatron, anyone?

For me, it's not worth the $3250. I could justify it if it was $500, but 3250 is a bit too much. It does have a really powerful sound, though. Is it tube based? It's hand built and has 8 VCOs, but AFIK not tube based. The point on the Swarmatron is surely that they can be user controlled to all con...

Re: swarmatron, anyone?

Got to try one out over at Big City Music last summer. Certainly a work of art. I guess it depends on if you music needs those sorts of sounds or rather you want to create music that features it's sonics. It's not something that easily replaces something else or can be easily replaced by something e...

Re: Sell my Prophet 08 SE for Doepfer A-100 + MF-101 Yes or

Why not save up longer and not have to sell one thing for another. Maybe start a modular and learn from it as it grows. A modular doesn't in a practical way replace a polysynth yet (despite some people trying to cobble something pretty hard to use and pricey with modules). But if you have made the d...

Re: Which of the new Moogs sounds the most like the Prodigy?

Really, only you can decide. Even if you get a Prodigy it might not sound exactly like the one you remember but odds are it will sound closer to what you want than something else (no big surprise). If you can try a Little Phatty then maybe you should. Maybe it won't sound good enough, maybe it will ...

Re: Would people like a modular if it didn't have patchcords

I didn't see mention that the Buchla 210e module might be in some respects a variation of the concept being talked about - http://buchla.com/model_210e.html More than a digital patchbay or virtual simulation it stores an attenuation amount of each input and, as with most Buchla 200e system parameter...

Re: Bring back the Moog Modular

I've always speculated that the reluctance to do a modular is the dealership network Moog Music has built up since Big Briar. There are only a handful of brick and mortar shops in the world that sell modulars and maybe twice that many online shops with some modules but by and large there are far mor...

Re: Synth repairs EML/Moog related.

Everyone I've talked to loves the Pittsburgh modules though I'm pretty sure the setup you are looking at hasn't shipped yet. I have their delay myself. I have an EML 101. I don't recall mine ever drifting so I can't advise there. Tracking is one of those things that's either a design flaw or a featu...

Re: Moog Vocoder on evilbay

I guess they are coming down a bit in price. There was Bode one, which is of course the same design just not Moog branded on Vemia. That one sold for under $3K on the 12th. Then again it may not be common knowledge that the design came from Bode.

Re: Artist/song recommendations!

No offense but Subotnick's "Silver Apples of the Moon" is a fascinating contrast in that it does not sound like a Moog. Buchla built his instrument at roughly the same time so it's fascinating to see a parallel developed quite advanced synth system. It was the first album entirely made wit...

Re: Moog muSonics Series V

It's one of those synths that do not exchange hands often enough to really establish a typical value. Someone may luck onto a buyer who wants one bad and can pay while others don't know the unusual heritage or got it for peanuts and would let it go for pretty cheap. You could probably count on it be...

Re: Moog 55 DIY

Schaeffer has advantages of being fairly easy to have quality metal panels completed. That said, they do not resemble vintage module front panels closely at all. As far as I know the type and linework is engraved and then filled in with a color. I see from Carsten's site that he's not replicating or...
