Thanks for the reply Boognish. To be honest, in the time this thread's been dormant my attention's wandered away from PD. I wrote a small step sequencer, and doing that reminded me that working with computer music languages is fun but takes up more time than I have these days. Still, the monome look...

Yes, you're right. In the case of the BBC doco, I'm saying that the source material is such low quality that I wouldn't buy a DVD over a download - even with some compression artifacts. And of course buying the DVD to support the people who made the documentary, and to increase the chance of simila...

LP with PD?

I'm just getting into Pure Data and wondering if anyone here has used it much to control the Little Phatty. Since I'm learning the language from scratch, I want to focus first on aspects that are most useful for realtime performance control of analogue monosynths in general, and the LP in particular...

Also, if you put it through a digital delay with a long delay time and a lot of feedback, you can use that to build up the pad-like sound. This can be good for drone textures where you don't need a lot of control over harmony, but not so good if you want a pad that follows chord changes.

This has been discussed to death, but... "Better" can only be determined relative to a specific set of objectives and aesthetic values. Without specifying what kind of result you want your gear to achieve, and why, there's no way to answer the question. And since musical style is very dive...

I'd say you should learn both at first. Also, listen to a really wide range of music, decide what style(s) you want to learn and/or perform, and then specialize in the skills that you need for those sorts of music. But it's usually good to practice more skills than you specialize in. For example, I ...

Sure, that could work. Or a similar approach that would open up even more possibilities would be to get a small looper (a little pricey new, but not too bad used). Then you could loop noise and have it as long as you want, and experiment with other things too.

Absolutely ... a good self-contained formant filter is one of the very few effect types that I still need.

The EP-2 is an excellent thing to have with the Little Phatty (or with Moogerfoogers). But realize that it does something fundamentally different from what a Wah does. A wah pedal, or any other effects pedal, works on the signal from the audio output (so it goes between the audio out and your amp or...

Since the classic wah circuits are based around inductors, they tend to sound different from synth bandpass circuits.

I've found that the TC Electronic Nova Delay is nice with the LP. It's got just enough features to be part of the sound-sculpting process, but it's also quite simple and direct to use. And the range of sounds it does from clinical to warm all sit well with the basic LP character.

Hi David, There are a number of different things can can influence the volume of a patch. Some that pop to mind... -- The waveform of the oscillators (some are just quieter than others, all else being equal). -- The level setting for each oscillator. -- The filter cutoff and resonance. -- The sustai...

That's what I was afraid of. I've been trying to get an answer from SF Marketing in Montreal as to whether they can do it (Amos pointed me to them as a licensed Moog shop), but for the last week they haven't been responding  Please post here if you find that L+M is able to do the mod, because ...

Anyone with experience shipping LP from Canada to Moog?

I'm wondering if anyone here has shipped their LP from Canada (I'm in Ottawa) to Moog? And if so, can you let me know what you paid, and if there are any hassles to be aware of regarding the border/customs? I've been asking for info on the CV out upgrade from the Canadian distributor, but not gettin...
