Re: Minimoog D OSC 2 problems

All three of the Minimoog Model D's oscillators can be switched to sub harmonic frequencies ("down into the clicks"). Perhaps the octave switch on your second oscillator needs attention/repair to bring its output back into the audio range.

Re: NI Massive Sqr has more bass than Sub37 Sqr

The Sub 37 is an excellent synth for bass duties, however it's raw waveforms with its filter wide open will not emphasize the bass unless you program it to sound bass heavy. Lowering the filter setting and adding in the sub oscillator will increase the low fundamental in the sub37's tone giving it t...

Re: what is OLD oscillator board.?

To expand this discussion for some of the newer members of this board (including Jaythejunkie) the Minimoog Model D had a long production run from around 1970 to 1981 during which several small design changes were made in the circuitry. Because of the coveted sound that the Minimoog is known for, th...

Re: Model D board maintenance

You can clean the gold "fingers" with a soft swap dipped in 90%+ pure isopropyl alcohol but it's probably more important to make sure all the fingers still have a firm grip on the boards and are in good alignment. Whenever you open up old gear it's also always good to remove any debris ins...

Re: Extending the range of Minimoog Model D

2nd question first. AFAIK the Minimoog Model D is 1 volt per octave. It's the Mulimoog that has a nonstandard volt per octave issue. If you just wish to play the Minimoog with the full frequency range already available it could work provided you make some mods for interfacing a very well made full l...

Re: Prodigy: PSU Replacement

It's likely that if it's really only your power supply that is malfunctioning, it may only need some of its capacitors replaced. This is much easier and cheaper than replacing the whole power supply. Complete power supply replacement, with quality vintage synths, makes the most sense with some of th...

Re: Sub 37 chords

You can get 3 separate pitches if you use filter oscillation as your 3rd tone but it may not be the most fluid way to play a chord progression and your tone palate will be limited.

Re: Duration of time it takes to do repairs

Didlisquat makes good points. I would also ad that if most of your synth still works or you have backup gear, you may time repairs for when Moog or your local synth repair specialist has a shorter cue.

Re: Duration of time it takes to do repairs

If time is an issue and if you are hesitant to ship your precious Moog, finding a trustable local repair facility that you can build a connection with could be a real asset. For many years I would keep a backup of each my main synths knowing that repair work was usually unreliable and take a lot of ...

Re: Model D Refurb in progres... (new guy)

I agree with you EMwhite. Usually fully refinished Minimoog wood never really looks right to me and is easy to spot. It is usually way too glossy and/or richer in color than a Minimoog should be. IMHO a top quality vintage instrument like a Mini should wear its age well, rather than be restored to l...

Re: ribbon cable connector on Classic MiniMoog

Perhaps this connector and ribbon cable is a mod to connect a later version of the Sequential Circuits 700 Programmer. This Minimoog was manufactured just a couple of years before the introduction of the 700 Programmer which was one of Sequential Circuits early products.

Re: Minimoog D Replacement Parts

I have a 1973 Minimoog that I have purposefully left unrefinished so I can gig with it with less concern about new blemishes. It is often rather obvious to me when a Minimoog is refinished as either the stain color or shine is not appropriate to the production year of the Minimoog. So if you are att...

Re: Biggest news in MOOG History coming Monday?

B3 guy - you have listed some good possibilities. Another option I can think of would be a rack module based on a Sub 37, designed so that several could be easily linked with a Sub 37 to make a poly that retains all the Sub 37's features and adds a few new ones.

Re: SUB-37 new user! Now i need a Delay!

With my 1973 Minimoog I get a wonderfully lush sound using a 30+ year old Yamaha E1010 Analog delay as well as a new Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail. Both are reasonably priced - especially the current Vapor Trail. I like how both have modulation controls and how the Vapor Trail allows you to put an effe...
