Re: Laptop PC Recommendations

Thanks for all of the input folks.
Just so I'm sure to cover all the software bases that may be used, what would you recommend for the minimum power in processors, RAM, hard drive and sound cards? I want to make sure I'm not under shooting the mark but not going overboard either.

Thanks again,

Re: Laptop PC Recommendations

How about this? http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_au/Uno.html Yea, I ran across this the other night whilst on my search and thought it was a pretty cool idea. This would eliminate the need for a special midi IN on the computer. Now I just need to zero in on a new PC. The only thing I don't like a...

Laptop PC Recommendations

I'm going to be purchasing a new laptop for my little home studio and need something that can interface via midi with a keyboard controller. Prefer PC to Mac. Essentially I'm needing to know which brand/s you prefer, soundcards, inputs/outputs etc. I've been using Dell for years for my daily email/i...

Re: Basic Sampling Question

Actually, you can use any keyboard that has a midi out. You need: a keyboard w/ midi out computer w/ soundcard w/ midi in software A bunch of software has been mentioned here already. I'd go w/ the free stuff. There's tons of it, actually. Same w/ midi keyboards...there's tons of them out there. Sa...

Re: Basic Sampling Question

Yeah, or the M-Tron for $50 or whatever. Scott, you play it on your computer. ....and you're doing this with the mouse? Isn't that a little slow? Just trying to visualize it. Thanks. Nah...you map the knobs on the digital interface to the knobs on a midi keyboard. You can control the knobs w...

Re: Basic Sampling Question

Casio? Really? I didn't know they produced higher end keyboards. Thanks, I'll look at those. They don't market them as high end. Casio got stung a bit when they entered the high end market with the CZ series, because Yamaha took them to court for infringing their rights on FM synthesis. To be hones...

Re: Basic Sampling Question

There are a few free downloadable VST programs emulating the Mellotron. I have Meltron (not absolutely accurate); Nanotron (very good, but has the restricted key range of the original Mellotron); and Tapeworm (fairly accurate and can be played over the entire range of the keyboard). I find I use Na...

Basic Sampling Question

I'm a guitarist by nature but my recent purchase of the Taurus 3 has been the catalyst for me branching out into other suplemental directions in creating my "Ambient Music". My next step is to incorporate the classic sound of the famous Mellotron. My thought process is to purchase some kin...

Re: UPS Question Re T-3 Delivery

If its not obviously displayed then its probably not requested by the dealer. The driver could drop it off or hang on to it at their discretion. Ive had both. Might as well just try to be there. :D post pics when it arrives! Metron, great to see you are joining the T-3 club! We talked about my Taur...

You guys are quick! Never actually thaught of the T-shirt, since I didn't get one. I am just happy that my wife allowed the purchase, (may have had something to do with a birthday in May, which makes me a Taurus, Bullheaded at times and some good old fashion begging) she agreed, let the Bull in! Ah...
