Re: New Model D ?

Does anyone know if the reissue is going to have to need regular tuning like the old model D's or were they able to correct that without losing the vintage sound? Presumably newer, better quality components will help. Even just using metal film resistors instead of carbon ones will make a huge impr...

Re: Hunting for rogue power supply

I'm late to the game, but IIRC, here's a compatible power supply:

Re: Pratt-Read vs Fatar and pitch/mod wheels on the new Mode

Nothing compares with the "buttery smooth" feel of a refurbished (new and lubricated bushings) Pratt & Read keyboard, for a synth-style action. They sure were fun to refurbish! Well, not when you'd send a spring flying across the room. Yeah, PR keyboards are what we're used to o...

Re: New Model D ?

Looks like Nick Montoya is part of the team responsible for the faithful reproduction of the Minimoog D. The added features are great and implemented very wisely. Nick knows his way around a Mini! :) Yes, I love the new features! I never thought I'd want to own a Mini, but I very much want one of t...

Re: Impact of new model D on pricing of vintage Minimoog D

1. I'm not gonna speculate, as I'm out of the vintage game. 2. From the video I've seen, the sound is perfect. Part of the reason for tuning problems was this area of matched resistors on the oscillator board that were later replaced with resistor arrays. It's 6 matched sets of 3 resistors. I used t...

Re: New Model D ?

There's a huge amount of myth and legacy surrounding the Model D and a lot of it quite unjustified in my opinion. Well, we will have to agree to disagree. :) 19 years ago, I saw my very first of MANY Minimoog restorations. It was one of my late husband Kevin's specialties, so I got to see Minis fro...

Re: For Moog Taurus I owners

I have the opportunity to make another batch of 20 of these, if there's enough demand. :) The price should be about the same or slightly higher if materials cost more. If anyone's interested, please email: synthfool@synthfool.com with the subject "T1 Board". Please spread the word. Thanks!

Re: Prince, final curtain call at 57, way to young, RIP

My favorite Prince album is "For You" because of all the wonderful synths on it. I loved the song "In Love" with its Minimoog goodness years before I knew what a Minimoog was. And "Ms. Polymoog" listed in the credits. :)

Re: Keith Emerson death

I spoke to him for about 10 seconds at this last NAMM. That was the second time I met him in person. I know lots of people are taking this loss very personally, and you have all my sympathies. As much as we don't like to speak about it, things like chronic pain and depression can be terminal. The be...

Re: RUMORS - not of the Fleetwood Mac nature

Well, I think, it`s a 50/50 contemplation. On one side it`s TOO BAD to do all rehersals on, bang down the keys steadily and wear down the electronics. The best way to preserve a Mini that has just been restored is to play the heck out of it. A proper restoration means all aging components have been...

Re: Minimoog model D differences

Silly me. I didn't realize that you were using the names of those ICs just as a means to differentiate between those oscillator boards...  As for those caps, I don't know. I guess Kevin Lightner might be able to identify them, but unfortunately he doesn't seem to come here an...

Re: RUMORS - not of the Fleetwood Mac nature

It would probably be easier to make a gem-encrusted Rubik's cube than it would to make a true analog polyphonic synth. The thing about our beloved Model D is that there's not been one universal standard for maintaining them since Moog went out of business. Even Kevin's methods of restoring Mi...

But.... Emu's are sterile sounding and they're cool! ;)
