4th Clue

Since this topic has already entered the realm of the ridiculous, why not speculate about the meaning of the clue after the next?

Replace the battery:

Isn't this a bit off-topic for this forum?

Patch diagrams can get messy and confusing. The simple ones like in the Mooger Manuals are ok, but things can get real complicated when dealing with a modular synth.

I usually make a list of each knob position and what each jack is connected to.

I sold my Source about 4 years ago to someone who was a Rentals fanatic. Since he kept bringing them up, I checked out their music. Seems like a lot of bands that came afterwards were influenced by their sound.

There's the Buchla MARF (Multiple ARbitrary Function generator):

Maybe you were thinking of that?

There's an Akai S612 sampler in that rack, too. That's odd, since it's probably the lousiest sampler ever. Even an Casio SK-1 is cooler since you bend it!

I have a Korg MS-03, which is a pitch-to-voltage converter. It's essentially a stand-alone version of the ESP section on the MS-20 with some minor changes. It's definitely a fun tool to have, but the tracking isn't perfect. Doepfer has a Pitch-to-CV converter module, but I'm not aware of any modern ...

Was this changed with later models? I have an early CP-251 (#21) and the knobs seem to be exactly the same as my MF-103 (also an early model).

You can get lower pitches easily enough with a frequency divider, it's higher pitches that are tricky. It only works with a monophonic signal, too. It's kind of possible with a ring modulator, but far from the results you'd get with a digital device. The ideal situaion would be a digital device with...

Add up all the jacks on each module and divide by 2 to get a basic idea of how many cords you'll need! I've run out many times before until I finally broke down and bought a whole bunch. I currently have about 50 1/8" cords and 10 1/8" to 1/4" cords for use with my modular system (4 r...

The S-trigger out on the Source won't work on most new modular systems. There's a few devices out there that can convert it, and there's a DIY solution on the Blacet site:

The MF just won't respond to the full 10V signal - don't worry about damage.
The output of the JAG depends on the input, so just drive with with 5v or less if you're worried about it. The "Dome Height" knob on the JAG attenuates the output, so no external devices are needed.

The Yamaha EV-7 expression pedal is metal and rubber, built like a tank, and cheaper than the Roland EV-5.
