Is it possible that come from the factory adjusted as perfectly as possible,minimizing quirky harmonics and “distortion,” and as they slowly go out of perfect adjustment, the sweet quirkiness develops, yielding more harmonics and organic sound? Just a thought.

Intermittent power supply problem?

Don't know what you're listening through. Many headphones or speakers have limited frequency range that can't produce sounds below a certain frequency.

Look at pages 31 and 32 of the manual for the menu setting for MIDI in. I suspect that with it set to USB/DIN and cables connected to both MIDI inputs, It only responds to the USB inputs, not both.
