That would mess me up too. You can always find great deals on CP-251's on Ebay that will have the power supply in the original spot. Thankfully I got my 2nd one on Ebay and didn't run into that.

It basically makes it so you have less cables running all over in front of your gear. Without it you can run cables to and fro between the MFs, but it can get messy. From my understanding the z is comparable to the original Big Briar 104. The SD has a 1000 ms delay time where the others are at 800 ms.
