There are some bass speaker cabinets that have tweeters for better high-frequency response, but sometimes they sound harsh or brittle, and it also depends on the amplifier. You can always bi-amp too - send the lows through a bass amp and the highs through something else. You wouldn't even need a professional crossover - just stick an EQ on the high freq. signal and cut the lows so you don't blow up your speakers.

You didn't read the monophonic keyboard chops thread, did you? A lot of it is tied up in the history of synthesizers. I'm sure others here will get into that. Sorry I don't have any answer of my own! I just happen to be up at 4 AM...

As much as I would love to see a new Taurus synth, I think I'm going to go the Little Phatty/MIDI bass pedals route myself... I've only heard a few recordings where I could recognize Taurus I pedals in use - near the end of the live version of Chris Squire's "The Fish" bass solo on Yes Son...

+1 on what Bryan T says - I've been wanting to try an e-bow myself! OK, I hate to promote myself (yeah right!), but I can't resist. Go to http://music.download.com/hieronymous and go down to the last track, "Taurus VI" - it's a 6-string bass instead of guitar, but it's the MF-101 in action...
