Not to go backwards a bit, but has anyone heard the Juno 106 synth? If so, what kind of sounds can it make? It is worth looking at for about $400? I looked it up on Vintagesynth.com, and it's 6 voices with midi. Look here: http://www.synthmania.com/juno-106.htm J106s are lovely synths, and you can ...

You mean selling a super-premium instrument as well as a more affordable instrument with fewer bells-and-whistles? Naw, Moog'd never do that...

... Oh... waitaminnit.

the circuit boards are most likely produced in batches, because Moog does not ship hundreds of synths per week. But a pcb-board company does them by hundreds per week. And running a line at a non constant fast rate would cause a loss of money. This is interesting. SO... If Moog introduces a new lin...

Okay... I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d27EMQ_I6Xc But it's from a few years ago, and there's no Phatty production. There's this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkqQDM-KBq8 Which is more recent. But I'm struck by how, although there is obviously a manual "assembly line," Moog...

Moog Factory

I just saw a very interesting video tour of the DSI factory. Does anyone know if there's anything like that for Moog?

I assume Moog does all of its manufacturing in-house. How automated is it? Is the LP line the only product that uses SMT?

Questions... questions...

It's ironic that some of us will complain about the look of the MoPho, but not about the name of the Little Phatty. [C'mon Moog, you can do so much better than name a kick-ass synth after a 1940s cartoon character... Just sayin'...]

EricK: I had a composition instructor years ago who said: "whatever idiom you compose in, always remember that a piece of music is a narrative. It has to go somewhere and do something. Think of your melodies as your characters, and your harmonies as what happens to them." Oddly enough, he ...

When I think of "symphonic rock," I think of the Mellotron. A real 'tron will be expensive -- not to mention a pain in the ass -- but you can load mellotron samples on pretty much any sampling keyboard.

... You forgot combo-organists... harumph. Just as Dylan Thomas noted that "a poem on a page is only half a poem," unheard music is only half-music, if that. On the other hand, there are so many opportunities today for studio-only musicians to be heard. We shouldn't be so hard on the studi...

I had a NL2X that belonged to a friend in my studio for a couple of weeks. I played it a fair bit and liked it a lot. It's a really well-designed and laid-out board. It is a great, bright, biting synth. It does not -- to my ears -- sound like an analog synth. I prefer analog polys for most pads, tho...

I've never heard the JX-10. I'm sure it's pretty hard to find. I checked out the Prophet 08 the other day, and it sounded good. I didn't have a chance to check out how it sounds on pads. Did the Prophet 08 sound modern to you or like an old analog synth from the 80's? Thanks! Actually, they turn up...

Ypu pretty much described the DSI Prophet 08. I've only played one in the shop, but it seems ideal for deep pads. And then there's the Roland JX-10, which is a 12-voice JX-8P. I have the latter, and I am continually amazed at how deep the sound is. For $2500, you could buy eight JX10s these days.
