The seller can ask whatever they want and the buyer can make their own decision. Besides, the area between a decent example and a pristine example can often fetch a disproportional amount. Same for cars, guitars, homes, etc. Also, just because a Source looks good and the buttons work, doesn't mean i...

Off the top of my head, here's a few favorites, but Moogs only... 1. The solo towards the end of Yes' Revealing Science of God from Tales from Topographic oceans. 2. Various synth solos by the band "Lake" (Amazon.com: B000005NN6, etc) 3. Synth on Jeff Beck's Wired album by Jan Hammer 4. Wa...

As for the Opus, they can suffer worn out sliders, broken switches, bad chorus chips and dividers and they had the foam inside that turns to goo. Fwiw, Polymoogs even of the later serial numbers, with all the updates, can still be in bad condition or require cleaning and calibration, neither of whic...

The opus and polymoog are very different, so it's hard to say what is "better." Both are now old and problems are common with either, so it comes down to the units themselves too. The opus has chorus that the polymoog doesn't have, but the polymoog can do a lot more to the sound overall an...

I didn't know it at the time, but I had serial #1 HP filter (904B s/n 1001) in my synth shop at one time. I asked Roger Luther if he knew who originally owned it and he sent me a copy of the actual sales receipt. Seems it was made for one, W. Carlos. Date 12-22-1966 I wish I could recall who the cur...

The Prophet 600 is a completely different beast.
Made much more cheaply, has all software envelopes, thinner filters, less panel controls, less modulation routings, a cheaper key action, etc.

This is a Moog forum though, remember?

I don't own any synths besides a Roland D-50, but I restore Moogs for a living. (see here: http://www.moogmusic.com/service.php) I sold off the last of my CA3019 diode arrays also. They rarely go bad and I wasn't replacing any, nor building things from scratch. On the 901s, obviously make sure that ...

Very cool.
Obviously a labor of love. :)

If your 901A/B's have any tracking or ranging switching inaccuracies, give me a shout.
I've come up with a few tricks to get them to behave.

Sorry to correct you LWG, but you're off on a couple of points.... First, the Ody's vcos are actually more discrete than a Minimoog. Unless the Moog is an RA with the discrete board, the Moog actually uses more ICs in their oscillators. Second, the Ody's LFO does not output a sine wave. It can only ...

On the 921's, there's both triangle and sine DC offset trimmers. If you made 901's, you may have to hand bias the offset via selected resistors. Use a DC coupled scope directly on the waveforms in order to know. VCA pop is also common, however I'm taking your post literally as if there's no VCA in t...

It's impossible to say what the problem is unless inspected by a tech or someone that knows the units well. If it is otherwise working correctly, it could be as simple as a recalibration. However, trimpots in Micros and Multimoogs can become very loose over time. Power supply issues, temperature sta...

While I've never built a Moog from scratch, I can appreciate what you've done. There's a LOT to know that isn't in the schematics. Even a few typos and factory changes not obvious. No slam, but I'm curious why you went to the trouble of casting your own knobs? The exact same knobs, from the original...
