Maybe you assume, the Subsequent is sending audio over USB. Most synths don't do this. They use USB for MIDI. So audio cables and a mixer/audiointerface and so on is needed. Maybe try using the headphones connected to the Subsequent.

I own (nearly, as I got an early Waldorf Quantum) four of the synths in this comparison. And I think this chart is near to my experience. But I think the 3rd Wave got a special unique character, once you don't judge it as just a VA synth. And I like its filter character.

As MIDI clock are send like 24 clock ticks per quarter note, you would note be able to see each clock signal with the human eye, unless you got down to slow BPM rates like 20 or less. The power to the knobs is not stable and clean. And therefor the pot scanning gives random values around the set value.
