Re: New ARP Odyssey synthesizer!
I will agree to disagree with your tech. As I said, I owned them all at the same time. Several of us all agreed, the later ones sounded the best. I've owned a few 2600s (all grey, Tonus and Arp) and every time I hear the orange/black models, they sound stronger and healthier. So, without knowing wha...

Re: PianoBar
From what I remember when it was released (I demonstrated the PianoBar at NAMM) the sensitivity was so detailed, that it could not be used on anything but a standard 88 key piano. I suppose you could try a tricky mounting on a shorter piano, but the spacing and positioning have the be JUST RIGHT or ...

Re: X Y controller...
The original wedge-shaped 959 had very little circuitry inside it, but a complex system of mounting one pot to the shaft of the other. And ran on +12-6 from the power connector. They were aware of the limitations of the small axial turn but I think it compares to the output of most modules of the day.

Re: Grey colored MiniMoog?!?!
The factory sometimes did special things, but I've never heard of a grey one. The case of a Minimoog is easily built from scratch, really, although it is about as easy to paint up an original too. I have seen a few all black ones, even had one. And a three white ones for Beach Boys and Captain (Darr...

Re: Ribbon controller
Might not need much at all... you could get the cables made and sent to you. The switch could be done by any electronics place, wouldn't need to be a synth specialist... Where are you located?

Re: X Y controller...
I'll see what I can find, I had some photos to tech the assembly of it, the box - and something to do with Bill Hemsath. I think the slanted wedge version is earlier, as it came with the CEMS system and others around 1969. Then you see the blue Minimoog-style rocker switches - and they may mean the ...

Re: X Y controller...
Indeed. It used the same CinchJones plug that was used for many Moog accessories (although early ones had the 3 prong version as on the early Moog systems). This voltage goes through the two resistive potentiomenters (one per axis) and then out to 1/4" plug. Fairly simple but the design of the ...

Re: Moog Preset Synthesizer in Thomas Monticello 372 Project
Not bad-sounding at all, for a simple oscillator and filter. Nothing like a 3-osc synth, but the Satellite (and Minitmoog) were fine, especially for the intended use, aping the sound of string bass or flute along with your combo organ or Rhodes onstage. Simple synth, simple sounds. No worse than the...

Re: New ARP Odyssey synthesizer!
Nothing really crappy about ARPs, excepting the sliders to tend to break under duress (not normal use). Having owned three versions of the Oddy (white panel, black and gold, black and orange) I'm hoping they do the later black and orange version as it sounded SO much better. The worst was the white ...

Re: Testing 904a...
Just did a listening test with 8 Moog 904a modules together [borrowed from everyone In town]- and all the 1960s-era ones did not self-oscillate (actually pre-72, the R A Moog versions). What's funny, is that some of them had already been modified, with a jumper resistor to increase the gain in that ...

Re: Plugging synths into guitar pedals
You MAY notice a serious loss of bass - this happens on a lot of distortion pedals. Some do it on purpose by design, others where it just happens. If low end is a needed thing, search the bass guitar forums for what they use. Bass players always have issues with pedals!
