Re: Problems with minimoog mod wheel

Molex = Bollocks! Thanks Kevin for setting me straight here. I always respect your amazing expertise and your willingness to spend time to give advice on this forum. My goal here was to suggest what I considered a simple repair that can be carried out by careful amateurs with some basic skills. I ha...

Re: not to stir up trouble, but...

In the last year I have noticed that you can often get new membrane control panels for vintage synths like the Source and Prophet 600 online. I am also amazed by all the other new parts being made for vintage synths like voice chips for Juno 106s and sliders for old ARPs. Although I mentioned it ear...

Re: Problems with minimoog mod wheel

Its actually very easy to remove the mod wheel assembly from the Minimoog Model D. For the simplest attempt at this repair you don't even need to detach the connecting wires. If you unscrew the two frontmost screws of the mod assembly the whole thing can be gently pulled out. Then unscrew the Molex ...

Re: Moog's Next Polysynth?

Referring back to the first post the SL8 was cancelled mainly because of the introduction of the comparatively inexpensive Yamaha DX-7. Moog saw that their SL8 could never be manufactured inexpensively enough to compete with the DX-7 and its new sound palate so the project was cancelled after only o...

Re: Problems with minimoog mod wheel

Assuming that your Minimoog Model D is indeed in great working condition (otherwise), and that you are an experienced analog synth musician, the issue can possibly be easily resolved. My Minimoog D had the same issue which is that the Molex connector that connects the mod wheel assembly wires (and t...

Re: not to stir up trouble, but...

Although I was sceptical at first and tried a variety of monosynths live and in my studio, I eventually realized how special the Minimoog Model D is. However after owning and selling a few Minimoog Ds I can say with certainty that they do not all sound the same - which can account for the varying op...

Re: More on Memorymoog tuning

I understand that the Memorymoog offers one of the biggest challenges in synth maintenance today. What other synths are similarly challenging to repair and keep running? Which use failure prone rare parts, and which use parts that will be easy to find even in the future? Which vintage analog synths ...

Is anyone here going to the New York AES show? Moog at AES?

I plan on going to the AES show next week and wonder if there will be any Moog exhibits and members of this form there.

Re: A misconception about the model D

As I have always understood it, the unusually fast attack of the Minimoog envelopes along with an unusual 20-25 ms hold at the attack's peak level, rather than a spike, is what give the mini its punch. Kevin's observation explains why this happens even when the sustain level is set at maximum. This ...

Re: What mixers do you guys use?

Has anyone been able to compare how the Allen Heath (Zed etc) and Soundcraft preamps sound when overdriven? Its well known that Mackie preamps are great but don't overload well at all.

Analog Synths Live

Tonight (Wed, November 17) in Manhattan NYC at Home Sweet Home the band Xeno and Oaklander is performing live with a variety of analog synths. Their music is one of the best examples of the recent revival and new interpretation of Cold Wave, Minimal Synth, and Minimal Wave. Xeno and Oaklander have a...

Re: Guitar Stompbox Pedals with Voyager

Does anyone have experience using rich level sensitive overdrive pedals like the Fulltone OCD or Boss Blues Driver with a Voyager or Minimoog - or maybe a Sansamp PSA-1/2 rack or Rocktron Maxe?

Re: Minimoog Census

After pleading with the owner of a small practice studio regularly for over 10 years he finally relented and let me buy his Minimoog Model D for a great price. He was reluctant to sell it because he was using it for a series of Pagan rites. I always knew the Mini was more versatile than some people ...

Re: Obermoog (alleged Moog / Oberheim hybrid?)

Ober-Moog development chronology from Greg Rule's Questions page in Keyboard Magazine May 1994 Malcolm Doak of Oberheim described the development process which I am condensing here. July 1990: Gibson acquires Oberheim July 19 1990: Product conception begins - goal is 6 month development for Winter N...

Re: Obermoog (alleged Moog / Oberheim hybrid?)

I've had conversations with both members of Angelspit including a long talk with Zoog about synths. Zoog doesn't strike me as someone that would try to falsely represent his gear or anything else. He writes on his website that "Regardless of whether it’s genuine or not, the Obermoog modular sou...
