Electronic Music Review from Trumansburg
http://moogarchives.com/emr05cov.jpg Someone at VSE posted a link to the scans of these Trumansburg era publications. These are from the first issue in January 1967 thru the last issue #7 from July 1968. Electronic Music Review scans I had only seen the covers and list of contents from the Moog Arc...

Re: X Y controller...
How's it sounding? Guess I did promise a demo. Here is a small demo uploaded to Youtube. This is powered from the Minimoog +10/-10 and controlling the IP modular. Sort of gives you an idea of how it works and the possibilities? Youtube demo of the 959 X-Y Controller Clone I first read about the 959...

Re: X Y controller...
Tom, you are first on the list if I ever make these to sell. You never know? As far as the schematic, this 959 was reverse engineered from a few photos with little else to go on. I drew one up, but there is a possiblility that Moog would use a different resistor combo for the modular +12/-6 supply. ...

Re: X Y controller...
Time to wrap up this project! The last parts I was waiting on arrived, so I can get this all together now. Was able to source the original type pots used in the 959 since those PEC pots had a slightly different feel to them. Found a set of originals for not much more than those PEC type cost. http:/...

Re: Anyone else ever come to the slow realization...
CZ, What kind of oil and how often? Might be a question for an Echoplex user group. Wish I knew, but I'm on my third motor. First one gave out around 1980. Second one about 1986. Did not get around to sourcing a new one untill a few years back. Back in those 70's/80's it did get used continuously a...

Re: Anyone else ever come to the slow realization...
Eric, good description of the Echoplex tone. I can still remember the first time I heard a Minimoog and Echoplex live. Was Jeff Beck with the Jan Hammer Group back in October 1976. Jan played "Darkness / Earth in Search of a Sun" solo on a Minimoog and Echoplex. Never heard anything like t...

Re: Anyone else ever come to the slow realization...
Man, I thought I was the only musician left on earth who still used a CRT monitor. Glad I am not alone! That is actually a nice one to cart out as it is a B&W monitor with something like a 7" screen. Very light compared to a color one. Found for $10 at a computer show and it was probably f...

Re: Anyone else ever come to the slow realization...
In the studio, it is tough to find a nicer tone than a vintage three oscillator Moog through a tape delay. Still have my old original Echoplex from the 70's. Think I paid $250 for it, and back then for me, that was more than a weeks pay. But what a sound I got from that combo! :D (A CS-80 was awesom...

Re: X Y controller...
Weekly progress update. The hardware arrived for fastening the various parts together. There were a few differet types of black oxide finish screws I needed. Moog modular front panels use the same 4-40 oval head machine screws, and I needed matching #4 oval head wood screws. Also needed #6 flat head...

Re: Moog modular switches
The UID Ultra-glow are wired to light up when the switch is on. They light up quite nicely and have small "grain of wheat" type bulbs inside them. The switches are DPDT, but the one side is used for the light itself, so only the SPDT side is used to switch CV's or gates in/out. Nice incand...

LOL! Now that you mention it, Jagger looks like a Jedi with a light saber the way that photo is cropped. I want to build a Moog Light Saber controller now!

Re: Moog modular switches
The sliders used on all 1969 and later Moogs were UID brand "Ultra-glow". They all had cool names back then for their products. Not cheaper, but perhaps less expensive than the Switchcraft "Lever-lite". http://i61.tinypic.com/qyfo5g.jpg Even though those Switchcraft type are beef...

Re: X Y controller...
Those PEC 10K audio taper pots arrived today. They aren't quite as well constructed as the AB type J pots, but are a suitable replacement. The pot shafts are a little different with the PEC type having a C clip and a little less turning resistance. But these seem like high quality parts. They have s...

Re: Moog modular switches
Dave Brown has a nice page with some interesting scope shots of the 901. Dave noticed the waveforms distort more the faster the oscillation. Dave Brown's 901 page The waveforms on my 901 were taken at two octaves above A-440. Very little distortions at that frequency, but a few octaves higher and th...
