I read somewhere (or heard in an interview) that they were designing the 106 and 107 at the same time and decided to combine the two into one effect.

I think 106 was going to be a harmonizer/tracker w/ variable LFO, and the 107 part was the FM circuit.

Considering the best price you can probably find on a Moog MF-104M is about $700 if you are lucky, you did fine. The 104Z is generally brighter in tone than the 104M.
