Re: Sub 37 Filter Cutoff: First Batch vs. Revised Batch

just to update everyone, Markus has told me that he is going to explore the metal pot further and make a new video. he is going to show how it is attached, and how it is wired up, whether it is a hole that can be drilled or a new PCB, etc. should be very interesting to see the results of his investi...

Re: Sub 37 Filter Cutoff: First Batch vs. Revised Batch

Toom the "once and for all" fix for all the early faulty Sub37's with a manufacture date before 06/15 is to demand that Moog install the same metal shaft pot as the "revised/fixed" Sub37's they are now making in the factory as per Markus' video.

Re: Sub 37 Filter Cutoff: First Batch vs. Revised Batch

It should have been a panel mount pot when a large knob is combined with an especially enthusiastic control like Filter CF - hi MRNUTTY...i agree 100%. this is the design/maunfacture problem. its the combination of both the most used knob on the panel, and the extra large knob that puts sideways pr...

Re: Sub 37 Filter Cutoff: First Batch vs. Revised Batch

MRNUTTY you may be right, but the bottom line is that the filter pots are failing. and in the future the Sub37's that have low serial numbers with the "faulty" pot will be worth less on resale. Thats the reality and bottom line. They will be the serial numbers to "avoid" and this...

Re: Sub 37 Filter Cutoff: First Batch vs. Revised Batch

hi all, Markus has confirmed that his pot has a METAL shaft. sub37metalpot.jpg so the result of this is ...it will be easy to tell if you have a "faulty" Sub37 or a "revised/fixed" version. You simply lift the filter knob up and off. and look to see if the shaft below is a black ...

Re: Sub 37 Filter Cutoff: First Batch vs. Revised Batch

hi Sardino, this is a good question. here is a pic of my Sub37 (SN...low 400)...filter knob, with the knob removed: Moog Knob pic.JPG as you can see, the shaft is black plastic. all the shafts are black plastic. i have a sneaking suspicion that the new "fixed" pot will have a metal shaft, ...

Re: Sub 37 Filter Cutoff: First Batch vs. Revised Batch

hi all , i have a reply from Markus.... "Hi.... My Sub37 serial number is 0581X ( "X" being my last omitted number) the manufacture date was 06/15. I did not know about this problem with the earlier Sub37s. I thought it was a bit strange having that great big Pot there but now I can s...

Re: Sub 37 Filter Cutoff: First Batch vs. Revised Batch

I can say that my unit, (SN 54xx, build date of 4/2015) does NOT have the large pot (and has NOT had the filter cutoff problem as of yet.) Assuming the SNs are truly serial starting at 0001, that's a lot of units with the original hardware. Moose hi Moose thanks for your info, yes they did start at...

Re: The tone of sub phatty and sub37

wait wait....we were not talking about the Slim Phatty. Yep, noticed that too, but as someone who owns a Sub37 and then purchased a Slim Phatty, the differences are clearly audible*, but the feature-set of the Sub37 is overwhelmingly positive. *Please do not make me choose! yeah a "best of bot...

Re: The tone of sub phatty and sub37

hey dmod....wait wait....we were not talking about the Slim Phatty. the Slim Phatty definately sounds different. from what ive heard and from what many have said, the Slim Phatty beats the Subs (Phatty and 37) by a small margin when it comes to raw sound. Im sure there are ppl here who know more abo...

Re: Sub 37 Filter Cutoff: First Batch vs. Revised Batch

One does not simply replace a smt pot by a full size one without punching a hole through the pcb, or more fittingly, by redesigning the entire pcb board to acomodate for the new heavy pot. correct. moog must have re-designed the board with traces going around a new hole to accommodate the new, more...

Re: Sub 37 Filter Cutoff: First Batch vs. Revised Batch

Right. This now looks like a genuine fault in manufacturing that Moog have addressed and kept relatively quiet until now. This video has exposed this faulty cutoff pot problem and upgrade by Moog well and truly now (see red circle).Looks like the cat is out of the bag. Thanks Markus! Moog have obvio...

Re: Inside the Sub 37 (video by Markus Fuller)

An interesting thing to see is the filter potentiometer, that is a bigger one than all the small smt used for all the other pots. I wonder if this is the new board version that was talked about, or if all Sub37 have this. Thanks for the link :-). Greg Very interesting greg. i did not know they have...

Re: The tone of sub phatty and sub37

i have both. the basic aggressiveness and tone of the raw saw oscillator, for instance, sound identical to me. if youre skipping through presets in a shop and you came to this conclusion then maybe thats because theres a lot of strings and plonky sounds in the presets? i hear a significant differenc...
