Re: New Moog guitar owner--advice?

Try it with a lot of different preamps. It is not a guitar, and that applies to the signal output also. Some preamps work well, some not.
It can be a bit noisy, try a different preamp/amp. Works well going DI into a desk.

Re: Ring Mod as VCA?

One question from this - have you tried a MURF? Using the MURF as a VCA is discussed in this thread: http://www.moogmusic.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12926&start=15 But I couldn't get the feel of how effective that works from the replies and it all seems a bit bloody fiddly, further in th...

Re: Ring Mod as VCA?

I think it is time for Moog Music to give us a decent VCA! ..... I used MF-102 for VCA, but that's not it. And why should I use my favorite MF for just VCA? The only think that this thing can do really well in a VCA manner it is something I call it random texture VCA. I just run Some randomized S&a...

Re: Ring Mod as VCA?

Well, Moog does make a bunch of VCA's - and you can get a Slim Phatty for the price of 2 or 2.5 MoogerFoogers. The thing is – I already have MoogerFoogers, and I don't want/need a Slim Phatty (yet ;-) Also, I wouldn't be able to use the SP as a VCA with my Foogers, because of its lack of CV outputs...

Re: Ring Mod as VCA?

I know that, it is one of the options, but patching between euro rack jacks and 1/4 inch jacks is a pain in the ass. I just don't have time for that on stage. Everything should be fast as possible. It would be easiest to have Moog brand VCA. Well, i just looked -in USA $$, Doepfer goop (you don't n...

Re: Ring Mod as VCA?

Last time I looked, the only stomp-boxish thing that did a VCA well was the Pigtronix Attack/Sustain. If you want to go that route, I'll sell you mine, reasonable :) Oh, never heard of that one. Still, now you mentioned it and I had a moment to check them out, they're quite pricey (in the MF range)...

Re: Ring Mod as VCA?

Okay, I went ahead and tried it. Yup, there is always at least a tiny bit of bleed-thru. It's most definitely not anything near to an actual VCA. As you said, 'Sort of' would describe it. Using the CP mixer changes things a bit, but doesn't remove the bleed-thru. Just for fun, i repeated the experim...

Re: Ring Mod as VCA?

the LOTRM does says there might be bleed-through. Sounds like maybe the Env coming out of the MP-201 might not be scaled right for the RM. Try going out of the MP Env, into the CP's Mixer into the RM, then mess with the Offset and output levels on the CP mixer. Sometimes pulling Offset a bit negativ...

Re: Octaves / Harmonies with MF-107 FreqBox?

That's okay, the FB doesn't track it syncs . So accurate pitch shifting isn't possible as no pitch-to-voltage conversion occurs. It's more of a sonic mangling device :) It really is a split-personality sort of a unit. Drive it via audio in, and it is indeed a sonic mangler. Drive it with CV ins (an...

Re: Doepfer Maq 16/3 Sequencer... can I get a show of hands.

I have used/sold a Step64, I would say that the good side is it packs a lot of function into a very small space. The bad side is it packs a lot of functions into a very small space, in terms of controls and display. I would suggest downloading the manual, see how the control work. I found it a bit c...

Re: Moog E1-M... Should I get one?

I can't say what you should do, but be advised - the guitar does not have MIDI out (like the YRG which is indeed a very cool tool for the price), it has the Roland-compliant 13-pin out, so you would need to buy more gear to use this feature. That being said, it's fun. If you haven't played one, I wo...

Re: using cp-251 with macbeth m3x

Hi there, I've recently bought a cp-251 to control my M3X. My main needs where adding a proper portamento to the M3X, which I was intending to do with the lag processor, ad to use the S&H to control the filter cutoff. I did the latter with no problem, but when it comes to portamento there's a l...

Re: using cp-251 with macbeth m3x

Wow, am amazed at this much trouble. Try this - get a voltmeter. Send a pitch CV out your pitch CV out-thing (Kenton 2k in my case) Measure the voltage. Send a pitch CV one octave higher out. Measure the voltage. Should be previous voltage +1V Then, Plug CV out of your pitch CV thing into IN of Lag....

I haven't experienced that with my Murf, probably best to give Moog service a shout.
