Would it be better to use low-esr or regular capacitors in the Power Supply?
Makes no difference in PSU applications. Just use high-quality caps and you can't go wrong.

Re: New Model D ?

I would love one, but not at the currently insane price. I'll let the market settle down for a year or two. £3,500 for a fairly basic monophonic synthesiser is just crazy IMHO. I'll stick with my VOS and my vintage D.

Re: Moog Prodigy: do capacitors model/type affect the sound?

Oh yeah the 'tropical fish' - I still have a bag of them of all sorts of values somewhere :D As a rule, leave the caps alone unless there is an obvious problem. They may look shonky, but if they are doing the job, leave them alone. Generally the only caps that need replacing are the large value elec...

Re: best way to use M32 sequencer to sequence other synths?

You can use the KB control voltage out and gate out to sequence another analogue synth. I find the results are pretty unreliable with the Mother 32. Scaling/tracking problems even between two Mother 32s.

Well that's going to be a labour of love for sure. I agree with Spiders, re-chip every chip that you can. Check that the power supply is working properly and within its design limits.

Re: Moog Prodigy: Pitch and Mod Wheels strange ranges

Sounds about normal for a Prodigy to me. These are not precision instruments. If you don't like the pitch bend or mod range you could wire in some 10K trim pots in series (above and below) and set the range according to your tastes.

^^^^^^ Yep and only owning one for a while will answer whether or not the Model D will work out or not for the way I play. I THINK I can hear that special magic in the model D demos i've heard and that may be a very different world when compared to the sub 37. Ill know soon enough. If the pole sele...

Re: Sub 37 Oscillator 1 / Sub 1 dead?

When the oscillators appear dead, what happens when you "init preset"? That is, press and hold the "Panel" button, to reset the settings to default values, and see if Osc 1 comes back from the dead. Hey mikeh11! Thanks for the feedback. As suggested by Taylor, I sent the Sub 37 back to Moog since i...

Re: Ringing noise when running audio through slim phatty

Separate the AC mains inputs, as far as possible, from the computer and the other instrumentation in your rig. Use different AC wall sockets as far apart as possible between your computer and your mixer/instruments. Make sure the cables that connect your instrument to your audio interface/PC have a ...

Re: slight rustle when I turn potentiometer CUT OFF

Sounds like typical 'crap' (dust/dirt/debris) on the potentiometer track. Sweep the cut-off pot rapidly up and down through the full travel several times. Keep on doing that and see if the 'rustle' diminishes. If it doesn't then, it's a warranty job I'm afraid - unless you are experienced with elect...

Nice! My skills on the sewing machine are not so good however. My wife is very good at this sort of thing but I have so far failed to persuade her to make dust covers for my gear. Must think of a suitable bribe.

Re: Mother-32 dead after brief 2 pin polarity inversion

Sounds like a current limiting resistor if it's in series with the +12v supply. I guess it's possible for it to burn out if the current draw in reverse polarity exceeds its power rating. Not a great design I'd have thought. Diodes are plenty cheap!

Re: Mother-32 dead after brief 2 pin polarity inversion

Great news! Curious to know what R51 is though. Resistors don't change values even in reverse polarity? Moog tech has always come through for me. Also Dieter Doepfer - I've asked Dieter the stupidest questions sometimes and he always responds in a courteous and professional manner. Good to hear your...

Re: Knob removal - any suggestions?

moog support told me they use a piece of ribbon wrapped around the shaft then pull up gently... Tried that technique and it usually fails because you're pulling the knob up from one side only and can easily damage the pot. You need a 'fork' type tool to exert force equally on two sides of the knob....
