Re: Model D Refurb in progres... (new guy)

FWIW, my Minimoog (pictured above) was actually painted black at some point in it's life. That doesn't bother me either. It is what it is and I feel privileged to own such a fine instrument. Years ago when I first got the bug (after always wanted a digital synth in the 80s but never having the money...

Re: Model D Refurb in progres... (new guy)

I think that Kevin Lightner had a bunch re-made/silkscreened and sold them with a pin on the back (to attached to clothing like a name tag) but I'm not sure if they are authentic, exact copies, etc. Daphne Lightner has been selling them on eBay I think. Depending on the year, you would have two of t...

Re: Model D Refurb in progres... (new guy)

PLEASE, do NOT refinish the cabinet. So many do this and it's a shame in my opinion. Yes, we all dream of finding a shrink wrapped 1974 Minimoog in the trunk of a garage kept '63 Corvette bought for $100 from that little ole' lady. Clean it up best you can, but don't sand/stain. I wouldn't dream of ...

Re: 904C. Cloned ...working...but suspect..

Master of the obvious again, but one thing to realize is that with a small band and the wrong frequencies being played you'll hear next to nothing. Not sure how much calibration is available or how you go about tuning it, (on a scope with reference frequencies I would gather). I'll rip my system apa...

Re: 904C. Cloned ...working...but suspect..

I bought a MOS-LAB 904a, 904b, and 904c some time ago and when I first got the coupler hooked up I found myself frustrated beyond belief! As it turned out, I didn't read the FM Of course it didn't come with a manual but the original Moog specification came to the rescue, which prescribes: 904a fixed...

Re: Which phatty's can poly chain with which?

I'll give you a view: Poly chaining or polyphonic mono synth chaining in my opinion has 2 (minimally), or upwards of 4 or 5 (ideally) touch points (numbered below). Some of the early, somewhat primitive Poly synths had modes where different timbres per voice could be played to beautiful and very muc...

Re: Little Phatty Bricked

If you have modest DIY skills (you can take something apart and put it back together properly) you might want to considering buying one of the debuggers from SiLabs. The 10 pin connector plugs into a 5x2 header connector on the back of the digital portion of the LP's board; and yes, you'll need the ...

Re: minimoog serial # 2865 or #10 000 ?

Probably '72-'73. If you look UNDER to adjustable panel, there might be a yellow tag with the inspector's initials and manufacture and final testing date. Despite these things being kicked around for ages and ages, this sticker usually stays put.

Re: ribbon cable connector on Classic MiniMoog

Could be precursor to the db25 connector which is on the Voyagers, certainly it's the same idea. Obviously, this was an add-on, after the fact mod. Very easy to pull the back cover off of the Minimoog; from there if you take some high resolution pics of where the wires connect, you'll get some good ...

Re: Please explain the 911a

Maybe there is something wrong with it. Send it to me : ) Should be as simple as it appears, send it a gate with say a 1/2 sec gate on time and a 2 second delay and two seconds after you pressed the key to initiate the rising edge of the voltage gate, the output will send another gate. What I do NOT...

Re: sub37 upcoming CV enhancements

Minitaur has this feature set and it's absolutely killer, especially if you use a modular and/or expression pedals.

Considering the built in sequencer, I would bet that it's going to be possible to map KB gate in to start/stop sequencer toggle not to mention plenty more functionality.

Re: A fully analog sequencer from Moog - that's what I want.

COTK: It depends on the module and when it was manufactured. The earliest COTK modules required dedicated (IDC ribbon type) power and could support the differential 12 or 15 volt standard. His power bus had (and still has) jumpers to support this as far back to 2005 (at least). Now, just as MOS-LAB ...

Re: Moog Modular Keyboard inquiry

Great stuff CZ, thanks for that. So the 952 duo phonic... what would happen if you played legato style? Sounds as if the 2nd note would engage vs the first note changing pitch but not firing the env gen. Not ideal is it? Like those funky Centronics printer interfaces. I think I had the same thing on...

Re: Moog Modular Keyboard inquiry

Thanks for that. I must have seen a modular controller offered by another company that had a split and mistook that for the Moog. Looking around just now, I see that it's the original synthesizers.com keyboard offered a hard split point by octave. Roger Arrick no longer offers this model. There were...

Moog Modular Keyboard inquiry

(no modular forum yet?) Well here goes. Can somebody outline for me, the various keyboards that Moog made over the years to accompany their Modular synths. I'm aware of the 5 octave walnut model, one that offered a split (I think), one that offered realtime (or full time) duophony, and a 4 octave va...
