Sounds like a sketchy component. Depending on where you bought this, there should certainly be a return/exchange policy for a faulty product, after all it is under warranty and, I assume, quite new. Talk to Moog, but also talk to your dealer....if it were me with a 3k unit, I would want a replaceme...

Because the Select models are discontinued they seem to be selling out rapidly. I looked at Humbucker and though the selection is limited to Tiger/Blue, the price of 2999 isn't bad. They also have a couple of nice looking Performers for a bit less. The original idea of the Select was that you could ...

Worrying about the backlighting in the Select is a bit overblown, IMHO. First of all, the life of the light is extended greatly by keeping the brightness down (although even on the dimmest setting it is on slightly). Be sure to examine the capabilities of the Pot Mapping feature as well. Much can be done here without the use of the VX unit. But I'll bet one could still find uses for the VX even when maximizing the Pot Mapping.
