Re: Voyager XL sighting
I saw an XL on stage as part of MGMT's rig a few weekends back at a festival in Monterey CA (Passion Pit were headlining actually). It had a pretty gnarly patch wired and looked like their keyboardist Ben Goldwasser was using it for sound effect-type-stuff only. I didn't get a chance to speak with t...

Re: Sell it all for a Voyager?
Seconding Eric's advice, if you're going to go for the Voyager figure out something else to sell so you can hold on to the MP-201, it's the Swiss Army knife of voltage controllers. I would never sell mine.

Re: Minitaur Oscillators vs. Subphatty Oscillators
Sub Phatty definitely sounds more like the Taurus line than the Voyager does (or the Lil Phatty for that matter). Of course you should be able to achieve ridiculous low end with any of these but to my ear the Sub Phatty was engineered with healthy portions of the Taurus mojo thrown in.

Re: Playing technique
The shoes are by a start-up in Salt Lake. They gave me a pair because I'm in a "cool" band and I got hooked. but they don't last very long and the company maybe caught on that I'm not actually cool because they've never given me anything else for free. To get back to the original question ...

These are the best shoes I've found for T3 work:

Real skinny and thin enough soles you can feel where you're at.

Tuning the SubP filter
So I have programmed a sine wave patch that tracks pretty well over two octaves. It's all filter resonance as would be expected. However every time I power on the SubP the filter is no longer in tune. Does the filter need time to "warm up"? Shouldn't the filter section remain precisely the...

Re: How do I set my Moogerfoogers "behind" my Taurus..
The MP-201 seems like a good solution for what you want to do. I almost never bypass my 'foogers; instead I'll use the Mix parameter set at zero. So you can place the pedals anywhere and use an expression pedal to dial-in the effect. The MP-201 is nice because you can set precisely the range of the ...

Re: Should I buy sub phatty for bass
If you've got the extra coin you should buy the Sub Phatty, no question. Not sure the direct lineage of the oscillator section but my hunch is that the Taurus 3 sounded so good that Moog decided to model future oscs on it. The great thing about the Sub Phatty is you have control over the amount of f...

Re: Sub Phatty on the road
I can't find a model or serial number on it, it was just kicking around the studio, the dimensions are 21.5" x 17.5" x 8" (including hard plastic feet). The fit of the length is so perfect that the Sub Phatty must be absolutely square with the case to slip in and out, and the height i...

Re: Sub Phatty on the road
Hey tin_pony, welcome to the forum. I found that an off-the-shelf road case from EWI fit the Subby almost as perfectly as could be. There's not much foam for protection, only a quarter inch or so, but it's the really dense, robust foam. Anyway I hit the road pretty hard in the fall and this seems li...

Sub Phatty on the road
Had a blast with my Subby on a short run through the northern Rockies this past week. Obviously the thing is easy to travel with but the exciting news is that after tuning it the second night out I never had to touch fine tune again. The temperature for one of the shows was in the 50s Fahrenheit (an...

Re: Sub Phatty, no oscillator 2 as modulation source?
I've been experimenting with FM on the Subby using both LFO keyboard tracking and the EG repeat function (thanks _DemonDan_!), the range of the modulating frequency doesn't extend to 20kHz of course but there's an awful lot of FM craziness to be enjoyed. However I noticed that if I set LFO keyboard ...

Re: Sub Phatty post-release firmware v1.1.8
Hey Mico, aftertouch from my Casio CZ-1 to Sub Phatty filter cutoff worked as advertised. Pretty sweet feature, thanks Amos. Like keyboard tracking for the LFO rate, it would be cool if you could invert this mod.

Re: Sub Phatty post-release firmware v1.1.8
Mico,
I believe the Subby will receive aftertouch over MIDI, as far as I can tell its destination is always filter cutoff. The hidden parameter scales this modulation like an attenuator. Haven't tried it out yet, maybe later today.
